How to Remove an Office Chair
Admin October 09, 2026
The methods for removing an office chair vary depending on its type. Here are the common types and their removal methods:

Pneumatic Office Chair
- Initial Safety Preparations: Before operation, wear protective gloves and let the chair sit for 1 hour to release the internal pressure of the pneumatic rod, preventing accidents caused by pressure release during operation.
- Five-Step Disassembly Process:
- Invert the Chair and Remove the Base: Place the five-claw base upside down on a flat surface. Use a wrench to rotate the wheel screw counterclockwise to separate the base from the chair.
- Separate the Pneumatic Rod from the Chassis: Gently tap the metal ring at the root of the pneumatic rod with a rubber mallet while rotating the plastic cover of the chassis counterclockwise by hand to loosen both.
- Release the Seat Cushion Connection: Remove the four cross-head screws at the bottom of the seat cushion. If the screws are rusted, drip lubricating oil and let it sit for 10 minutes before disassembly.
- Extract the Pneumatic Rod Core: After the pneumatic rod is separated from the chassis, grasp the rod body and lift it vertically while gently swaying it left and right to facilitate removal.
- Handle Residual Clips: Use needle-nose pliers to remove the plastic washer stuck in the chassis hole, ensuring the chassis hole is clean.
- Stuck Handling Tips: If the pneumatic rod and chassis cannot be separated, invert the seat and inject WD-40 rust inhibitor into the joint. Let it sit for half an hour before attempting disassembly again. Avoid violent hammering of the connection parts to prevent damage to the chair structure.
Universal Lifting Chair
If the seat cushion is tightly connected to the pneumatic rod, invert the cushion, step on the pneumatic rod to fix it, and grasp the chassis with both hands, swaying it left and right while pulling it upward. If the connection is too tight, gently tap the connection between the cushion and the pneumatic rod with a rubber mallet or a cloth-wrapped hammer to loosen the clips through vibration before disassembly. Be careful not to directly hammer metal parts to prevent damage.
Some Computer Chairs
- Invert the computer lifting chair and place it upside down. First, remove the chair's base by hammering along the bottom steel ring with a rubber mallet and then prying it open. Repeat the hammering and prying actions if it is not loose.
- After removing the base, use a screwdriver to remove the upper seat. Hammer the metal chassis firmly while holding the hydraulic rod and stepping on it to assist in disassembly.
- First, remove the four screws on the back of the seat plate with a screwdriver. Grasp the fixed iron plate with your hand and lift it up. Hammer the chassis (the part with wheels) downward. Turn the chassis upside down and pry off the central clip spring in the chassis with a flat-head screwdriver. Then, turn the chassis upside down again, grasp the lifter with your hand and lift it up, and hammer the chassis downward.
