How to Pack Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

When packing office chairs, you can refer to the following steps and choose the appropriate method based on the moving conditions, chair structure, and value:

I. Determine the Packing Method

  • Packing without disassembly: This method is suitable for situations where the moving passage and transportation vehicle have ample space, the chair has a simple structure, or disassembly is complex. Directly use bubble wrap and stretch wrap to wrap the entire chair in multiple layers. This allows for quick packing, but ensure the wrapping is tight to reduce movement during transportation.
  • Packing after disassembly: If the moving space is limited, the chair has a high value or a precise structure, or if it requires long-distance transportation or long-term storage, it is recommended to pack after disassembly. When disassembling, follow the logical order of "from the outside in, from top to bottom, and reverse assembly" to avoid damaging components or losing parts.

II. Prepare Materials and Tools

  • Core protective and packaging materials: Bubble wrap is used to wrap components such as the chair body, backrest, and legs, providing cushioning and shock absorption. Stretch wrap is used for outer layer fixation to prevent the package from loosening and to protect against dust and dirt. Packaging paper or old newspapers can be used to wrap painted surfaces that are prone to scratches or components that require special protection against dirt. Cardboard boxes (recommended sizes: 60x40x50cm or 50x40x40cm) are used to hold the disassembled parts. Dust bags or disposable tablecloths can be laid inside the cardboard boxes to provide additional dust and water protection.
  • Fixing and storage tools: Wide tape is used to seal the cardboard boxes and fix the edges of the packaging materials. Accessory bags or sealed plastic bags are used to store small parts such as screws and washers. Markers and label paper are used to mark the packaged components or accessory bags for easy identification during reassembly.
  • Auxiliary tools (if disassembly is required): A rubber mallet is used to disassemble tightly fitted components such as gas rods, avoiding direct impact with a metal hammer to prevent damage to the paint surface.

III. Specific Packing Operations

  • Wipe the chair surface: Use a slightly damp cloth to wipe the chair, including the armrests, backrest, and chair legs. Wait for the surface to dry before packing.
  • Wrap with stretch wrap: If the chair is too large, try to disassemble it before packing and wrap the components with stretch wrap. For non-disassemblable chairs, wrap them tightly with stretch wrap first.
  • Pack with bubble wrap: Use bubble wrap to wrap the surface of the chair. First, wrap it horizontally twice, then vertically, ensuring full coverage to cushion the transportation pressure.
  • Cut and package with cardboard: If the original packaging is intact, it can be used directly. If lost, it is recommended to cut hard cardboard to make an outer package and use hard corner protectors to protect the edges. For valuable chairs, a frame-style wooden box can be made, and the interior can be filled with foam or clothing to reduce gaps.
  • Attach labels and shipping marks: Attach labels to the package indicating "Fragile" or "Valuable" to remind movers to handle with care.

IV. Other Packing Methods for Reference

  • Stacked packing: Stack two chairs face-to-face, align the backrests and notches, and evenly seal them with high-adhesive tape, wrapping horizontally and vertically to reduce collision and friction.
  • Frame-fixed packing: Fill the area under and around the chair with bubble wrap to prevent sliding or bumping. Use wooden strips to make a frame and fix it for dust protection and aesthetics. Wrap the frame with bubble wrap to protect the edges, and stuff the edges well to prevent scratching the floor or wearing down the furniture. Special treatment is also required for the wheels.
