How to Move Office Chairs
Admin October 16, 2026
Moving office chairs requires step-by-step standardized operations to ensure safety and avoid damage. Here are the specific methods:

1. Packing Preparation
- Cleaning and Disassembly: Wipe the surface of the chair with a cloth, including the armrests, backrest, and other parts. If the chair is disassemblable, disassemble it step by step according to the instructions, and wrap the components with stretch film to prevent scratches; for non-disassemblable chairs, wrap them entirely with stretch film.
- Bubble Wrap Reinforcement: Wrap two circles of bubble wrap horizontally and then three to five layers vertically, focusing on wrapping protruding parts such as chair legs and armrests to ensure no exposed areas.
- Special Material Handling: Chairs with glass or mirror decorations should have the glass parts wrapped separately with bubble wrap and secured with tape; for genuine leather or fabric chairs, it is recommended to cover them entirely with dust covers or old bedsheets to avoid scratches or stains.
2. Selecting Packaging
- Original Packaging Utilization: If the original packaging is intact, place the packed chair directly into the original cardboard box; if lost, cut hard cardboard to make an outer packaging and protect the edges with hard corner protectors.
- Valuable Item Protection: For high-value items such as antique chairs or designer chairs, custom frame-style wooden crates can be made, filled with foam or old clothes inside to reduce the gap between the chair and the crate walls and prevent shaking.
- Short/Long-Distance Differentiation: Short-distance moving can be done directly; for long-distance moving, the chair should be completely disassembled, with the components wrapped separately and placed into cardboard boxes. Small parts such as screws should be placed in sealed bags and attached to the main body, with the boxes labeled 'Fragile' and 'This Side Up'.
3. Moving Process
- Label Warnings: Attach 'Fragile' or 'Valuable' labels on the outside of the packaging to remind movers to handle with care.
- Manpower Allocation: For heavy chairs, it is recommended that two people collaborate, keeping the force even during moving to avoid tipping over; never use the armrests as the fulcrum; instead, support the seat surface.
- Route Planning: Before moving large chairs, measure their length, width, and height to confirm whether they can fit in elevators or staircases, and plan the route in advance.
4. Transportation Selection
- Service Matching: For light chairs, express delivery is preferred (about 30-50 yuan); for solid wood chairs or massage chairs, logistics is suitable (100-200 yuan), and it is necessary to confirm whether it includes upstairs service; forๅๅ (same-city) transportation, Huolala can be used (the starting price for a small truck is 30-50 yuan).
- In-Vehicle Fixing: During transportation, the chair should be loaded last and unloaded first, and fixed with ropes to prevent shifting.
- Insurance Purchase: For particularly valuable chairs, it is recommended to purchase transportation insurance and choose a professional art logistics company.
