How to Lower an Office Chair
Lowering an office chair requires operation based on the type of adjustment mechanism. Here are the specific steps:

Identify the location and type of the adjustment mechanism
The adjustment mechanism of an office chair is usually located beneath the seat near the chair legs, although some models may have it on the side of the seat or near the armrests. Common adjustment methods include lever-type, knob-type, and pneumatic-type:- Lever-type: Often in the form of buttons or handles, with possible raised or indented textures or directional indicators on the surface;
- Knob-type: Features arrows or textures on the surface, and turning it clockwise lowers the height;
- Pneumatic-type: Achieves height adjustment by pumping the lever (repeatedly pushing it up and down).
Unlock the adjustment mechanism (if necessary)
Some chairs are equipped with a locking function and require pressing an unlock button (usually a small round or square button) before operation. If the adjustment mechanism does not respond, check beneath the seat or on the side for a hidden unlock switch, press it lightly, and then attempt to adjust.Perform the lowering operation
- Lever-type: Press and hold the adjustment button/handle with your fingers or palm while leaning slightly forward with your body, applying downward pressure to slowly lower the chair. Continuously observe the height change during the lowering process to avoid excessive lowering, which could result in your feet hanging in the air or an overly large angle between your thighs and the ground.
- Knob-type: Grasp the knob with your hand and turn it slowly clockwise. The chair will gradually lower according to the rotation amplitude. Maintain even force while turning to prevent a sudden drop in height due to excessive force.
- Pneumatic-type: Lower the seat height by repeatedly pushing the lever up and down (pumping). Pause briefly after each push to observe the height change until reaching the desired position.
Adjust to a comfortable height
After lowering the chair to the target height, release the adjustment mechanism and maintain a sitting position. Check if your feet are flat on the ground and if your thighs are parallel to the ground. If the height is still not suitable, repeat the above steps for fine-tuning. In an ideal sitting position, your knees should be bent at a 90ยฐ angle, and your feet should rest naturally on the ground to avoid your legs hanging in the air or excessive pressure on your thighs.Test stability and safety
After adjustment, gently sway your body from side to side to check if the chair is stable. If there is significant wobbling, check if the chair legs are in contact with a flat surface, if the adjustment mechanism is fully locked, or readjust the height. After long-term use, it is advisable to regularly check if the pneumatic rod or mechanical structure is aging to ensure safety during use.
Precautions: Avoid sudden force or rapid release of the adjustment mechanism during operation to prevent the chair from lowering uncontrollably. If the chair is equipped with a pneumatic rod, do not disassemble or strike it violently to avoid potential safety hazards.
