How to Invert an Office Chair
The operation of inverting (reclining) an office chair should be carried out step by step according to the type of chair. Here are the specific methods:

I. Preparation Before Operation: Ensure a Safe Environment
- Clear the surrounding space: Before operation, move the chair to an open area, away from walls, furniture, and other obstacles to avoid collisions during the inversion process.
- Check the chair's condition: Ensure that the chair's four legs are firmly on the ground and that there are no loose or damaged components (such as wheels or gas cylinders). If there are any faults, repair or replace the components first to prevent tipping or loss of control during inversion.
II. Locate the Adjustment Mechanism: Choose the Operation Point According to the Chair Type
- Ordinary office chairs: The adjustment lever is usually located in the center or on the side of the chair's base. You can find it by crouching down and observing the base structure. Some chairs may require simultaneous operation of multiple components (such as pulling the seat back and the bottom lever).
- Executive chairs or chairs with a recline function: The adjustment handle is mostly located on the right side of the seat. For some chairs, the lever to fully recline the backrest is hidden in the groove under the right armrest. You need to confirm by touching or observing the markings under the armrest.
III. Perform the Inversion Operation: Adjust the Angle Step by Step
- Ordinary chairs: Use your foot or hand to push the adjustment lever forward (some may require downward pressure), and at the same time, slowly lean back your body to feel the change in the resistance of the backrest. If the resistance disappears, it means you have entered an adjustable state.
- Chairs with a recline function: After pulling the handle on the right side, lean back slightly with your back to the target angle, and then release the handle to fix it. If you need to fully recline the backrest, pull the special lever under the right armrest and adjust your body's center of gravity simultaneously.
IV. Adjustment and Precautions: Ensure Safe Use
- Posture control: During the inversion process, keep your weight evenly distributed, avoid exerting force on one side or shaking violently to prevent the chair from tipping over.
- Angle limitation: After inversion, adjust the seat angle to a comfortable position, but avoid excessive inclination (it is recommended not to exceed 135 degrees), and do not place your feet on the seat or the table.
- Usage prohibitions: Maintaining an inverted posture for a long time or sleeping directly on the chair may damage the gas cylinder or the chair frame structure. If the chair frequently reclines backward, immediately check whether the gas cylinder is leaking or aging (it is recommended to replace gas cylinders without 3C certification).
V. Restore to Original State: Correctly Reset the Chair
If you need to return to a sitting position, pull the adjustment handle (or lever) again and relax your back. The backrest will automatically bounce back to its original angle through the spring or gas device. After resetting, check whether the chair is stable and confirm that there are no abnormalities before using it again.
Tip: The designs of office chairs from different brands may vary. It is recommended to refer to the manufacturer's instructions or consult after-sales personnel before operation. If the chair has no clear adjustment mechanism, do not force it to invert to avoid damaging the structure.
