How to Fix an Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The fixing of an office chair requires assembling its components step by step in order. The specific steps are as follows:

  1. Fixing the Chair Base and Casters
Insert each caster into the assembly holes of the five-pronged chair base one by one, or install the casters onto the chair base first. Ensure that the casters fit perfectly into the holes of the chair base to prevent looseness. After installation, check that each caster can rotate flexibly to ensure smooth subsequent movement.

  2. Fixing the Gas Lift
Turn over the five-pronged chair base with the casters installed. Align the thicker end of the gas lift vertically with the center hole of the chair base and insert it to ensure a tight connection between the gas lift and the chair base. Pay attention to the direction of the gas lift in this step; the thicker end is the bottom, and the thinner end is the top. Avoid reverse installation, which can lead to structural instability.

  3. Fixing the Seat Base and Seat
Place the seat base on the bottom of the seat, paying attention to the direction of the seat base (usually aligned with markings or grooves). After aligning the four screw holes, use a screwdriver to screw in the four B screws one by one for 3-4 turns to initially fix the position, and then tighten all the screws in sequence. Ensure that the seat base and the seat are completely flush in this step to avoid abnormal noises or shaking during subsequent use.

  4. Fixing the Seat to the Gas Lift
Align the center hole at the bottom of the seat with the top of the gas lift and insert it vertically downwards until the hole at the bottom of the seat is fully engaged with the hole of the seat base. Keep the seat level during insertion to avoid tilting, which can damage the gas lift or result in an unstable connection. After installation, gently press down on the seat to test its firmness.

  5. Fixing the Backrest

    • Align the two sides at the bottom of the backrest with the installation holes on the armrests of the seat. After insertion, use two C screws to fix the bottom of the backrest from the bottom of the armrest brackets.
    • Then align the back of the backrest with the installation holes on the seat brackets. Use two wrenches to lock the D screws (i.e., one wrench holds the nut in place, and the other tightens the screw) to ensure a firm connection between the backrest and the seat.
    • For some backrests that need to be inserted into a tray, align the top of the backrest with the groove of the tray and gently press it until it is fully embedded.
  6. Fixing the Armrests
Press the button below the armrest surface (some models require pressing). Insert the left and right armrests into the holes of the armrest brackets respectively. After insertion, use a screwdriver to screw in the three screws one by one into the bottom of the armrest brackets. Keep the armrests level during fixing to avoid uneven heights that can affect comfort during use.

  7. Fixing the Headrest
Place the headrest in the middle position at the top of the backrest and gently press the installation area of the headrest to make it flush with the backrest. Pass two E screws through the headrest fixing clips, screw them in for 3-4 turns one by one for initial fixing, and then tighten them completely. After installation, check whether the headrest can adjust its height or angle (depending on the model).

Precautions:

  • Use the matching screws and tools during assembly to avoid structural damage caused by mixing them up.
  • Gently shake the components after each step of fixing to test their firmness and ensure there is no looseness.
  • Check whether the gas lift is leaking or damaged before installation to avoid safety hazards.
