How to Destroy Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

Destroying office chairs is unethical and potentially illegal, as it can cause damage to others' property. It is not recommended to carry out such actions. The following content only introduces the principles by which office chairs of different materials may be destroyed from the perspective of knowledge popularization. Please do not imitate it for improper purposes.

Plastic Office Chairs

  • Treading Damage: First, sit on the chair normally. Then, press your feet hard on the crossbeam of the chair. By continuously applying a large amount of pressure and using the lever principle along with your own weight, the crossbeam will break under the pressure. After that, stand up and stomp hard on the seat surface. Since the seat surface is relatively thin, it is prone to cracks or even breakage under concentrated and powerful external force. Finally, kick the chair over and then kick it hard again to further expand the extent of the damage.
  • High-Temperature Deformation: Place the plastic office chair in a high-temperature environment, such as near a fire source or under prolonged exposure to the sun. Plastic will gradually soften under high temperatures, and its structural stability will decline. At this point, a slight application of external force may cause the chair to deform, such as bent chair legs or a collapsed seat surface, thereby disrupting its normal use.

Wooden Office Chairs

  • Manual Disassembly and Physical Striking: Carefully observe the structure of the chair and find weak points, such as the joints between the panel and the legs, and the edges of the panels. Insert a screwdriver or crowbar into the gaps and gently pry them open. At the same time, use a hammer to strike the joints or the edges of the panels. Through repeated prying and striking, the connecting parts will become loose, gradually destroying the overall structure of the chair. If the chairs are stacked and stuck, you can suspend the chair and then strike its side with a heavy object, or strike the gaps with the handle of a pair of scissors to separate the chairs. For stubborn mortise-and-tenon joints, you can soak the joints in hot water or apply a wet towel for a few minutes to make the wood expand and reduce the tightness of the mortise-and-tenon joints, and then pry them open for disassembly.
  • Tool-Based Destruction: Use an electric drill to make deep holes in the weak parts of the seat surface and chair legs, damaging their internal structure and reducing the strength and stability of the chair. Then, use a hammer to strike the drilled parts to make the wood splinter. You can also use an axe to chop along the grain direction of the chair legs or the edges of the panels. However, when using an axe, you need to fix the chair first and take protective measures, such as wearing goggles and thick gloves, to prevent wood splintering from injuring yourself.
  • Water Soaking for Softening: Soak the wooden office chair in water for a short period, with the time controlled between 30 minutes and 2 hours. This will make the wood absorb water and become soft, making it easier to disassemble or destroy the chair later.
