How to Cover an Office Chair

Admin October 13, 2026

There are three main ways to cover an office chair: making a chair cover, installing a computer chair cover, and installing a 2pros fabric cover. Details are as follows:

Making a Chair Cover

  • Measurement and Material Selection: Measure the key dimensions of the chair, such as the width and height of the backrest, the length and width of the seat, and the height of the armrests (if any). Choose materials with high elasticity, such as thick elastic fabrics or knitted fabrics. For chairs with complex shapes, reserve an additional 3 - 5 centimeters for seam allowances.
  • Making the Backrest Template: Draw the front outline of the backrest on paper according to the measured data. Reserve an extra 3 centimeters on both sides as seam allowances. Mark the positions of notches at curved areas. Cover the template on the fabric, fix it, and then cut it out. Keep the elastic fabric stretched while cutting.
  • Making the Seat and Armrest Templates: The seat template should include a design for the front edge's curvature. When cutting, remove the excess parts and make notches. If there are armrests, make separate armrest templates. Measure the relevant data and mark the connection positions. Fix them and then cut them out, checking for flatness.
  • Sewing and Assembly: First, sew the connection between the seat and the front part of the backrest. Then, fix the armrests (if any). Finally, sew the backrest part. Use double-row stitching for key parts. Stretch the elastic fabric appropriately while sewing and add decorations if desired.
  • Detail Adjustment and Fixing: Try on the cover to check the fit. Sew elastic bands into areas that are too loose. If it is too tight, remove the stitches and adjust. Finally, use an invisible stitch to fix the bottom of the chair cover under the seat.

Installing a Computer Chair Cover

  • Preparation before Installation: Prepare measurement and cutting tools (a soft tape measure or ruler, scissors), cleaning tools (a wet towel, a brush, and adhesive remover), and fixing tools (the chair cover comes with hooks, buckles, or elastic bands; if insufficient, prepare seat cover clips, Velcro, or magnetic patches). Wipe the surface of the seat with a wet towel and wait for it to dry completely. When choosing a chair cover, pay attention to the fabric's elasticity, anti-slip design, full coverage, and ease of cleaning.
  • Installation Steps: Adjust the seat and remove the headrest (if it is independently detachable). Slip the backrest cover over the top and smooth it out with your palm. If the seat can be reclined, it is easier to operate when reclined. Fix the sides of the backrest and the headrest. Align the edges and pull tight the fixing straps or hooks and fasten them. Put on the headrest cover and fix it. Spread out the seat cushion and fix the bottom. Lay the bottom seat cover flat on the seat cushion.

Installing a 2pros Fabric Cover

Slip the body fabric cover over the edge of the chair. Any excess fabric can be tucked back into the gaps using fabric organizing pieces. Slip the headrest fabric cover over the edge. Open the back cover and thread the shoulder pads through the front holes to the back and then back to the front, hooking them onto the shoulder pads on the other side.
