How to Clean Office Chairs
Admin October 16, 2026
Cleaning office chairs requires cleaning different parts separately, as follows:

I. Cleaning of the seat surface, backrest, armrests, and other parts
- Basic cleaning process: Follow the principle of "top to bottom" and clean the backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and chair legs in sequence to avoid omissions. The cloth used should be slightly damp but not dripping to prevent water stains.
- Deep cleaning methods:
- Comprehensive dusting: First, use a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust and debris from crevices, paying special attention to the fiber gaps in fabric materials.
- Foam cleaning: Spray a professional foam cleaner to ensure the cleaner fully penetrates the fixed fibers and breaks down deep-seated stains.
- High-temperature treatment: Use high-temperature steam equipment to disinfect the cleaned area, which not only kills bacteria but also accelerates the evaporation of residual cleaner.
II. Cleaning and maintenance of office chair casters
- Hair entanglement handling:
- Scissor trimming: Use small scissors to cut off entangled hair one by one, but this method is time-consuming.
- Disassembly cleaning method:
- Turn the office chair upside down, hold the caster bracket with your hand, and gently pull out the casters outward (most are designed with snap-on mechanisms and do not require tools; if stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the snap-on mechanism).
- After removing the casters, use tweezers to pick out long hairs and carpet fibers from the gaps (operate in the direction of caster rotation).
- Dirt cleaning:
- Facial tissue friction method: Soak a used facial tissue, let it air dry slightly, wrap the uneven side around the wheel, secure it with a rubber band, and transfer dirt to the facial tissue by moving the chair back and forth.
- Neutral detergent brushing: Use an old toothbrush dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent (avoid strong alkaline cleaners that can corrode the casters) to gently brush the surface of the wheels and the gaps in the bearings to remove dust and oil stains; finally, rinse with water (avoid getting water into the bearings), wipe dry, and air dry for 10 minutes.
- Subsequent handling:
- Lubrication maintenance: Apply 1-2 drops of special lubricant for office equipment to the bearings (avoid using cooking oil as it attracts dust) and rotate the casters to evenly distribute the lubricant.
- Reinstallation: Align the casters with the bracket snap-on mechanism, gently push until you hear a "click" sound, confirm that they are securely installed, turn the chair upright, and push to test for smoothness; if there is still stuttering, check for residual debris.
- Anti-slip treatment: Use invisible tape to stick to the surface of the wheels, which not only prevents excessive slipping but also facilitates replacement.
