How to Clean Office Chairs
Admin October 09, 2026
Cleaning office chairs requires handling different parts separately. Here are the specific steps:

Chair Body Cleaning
Basic Wiping Wipe from top to bottom in the order of 'backrest โ seat cushion โ armrests โ chair legs' to avoid omissions. The cloth should be slightly damp and not dripping to prevent water stains or fabric dampness. For leather chair surfaces, use a dedicated leather cleaner to avoid cracking caused by regular cleaners.
Deep Cleaning
- Vacuuming: First, use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove surface dust and debris from crevices, paying special attention to the folds of fabric chair surfaces.
- Foam Penetration: Spray a professional foam cleaner to cover the chair body surface. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the cleaner to fully penetrate the fibers and soften stubborn stains.
- High-Temperature Disinfection: Use high-temperature steam equipment (such as a garment steamer) to disinfect the chair surface. High temperatures can kill bacteria and accelerate the evaporation of the cleaner. Be careful to control the steam distance (about 10-15 cm) to avoid local overheating that could deform the fabric.
Wheel Cleaning
Disassembling the Wheels
- Turn the chair upside down (with the seat facing down), hold the wheel bracket with your hand, and gently pull the wheels outward (most are designed with snap-on mechanisms). If the snap is too tight, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge for assistance, avoiding scratches on the bracket.
- Place all the wheels together and check each one for hair and debris in the bearing gaps.
Removing Debris
- Hair Removal: Use tweezers to clamp out long hair or fibers from the gaps along the direction of wheel rotation, avoiding reverse winding which makes cleaning more difficult.
- Surface Brushing: Dip an old toothbrush in a small amount of neutral detergent (such as dishwashing liquid) and gently brush the wheel surface and bearing gaps to remove oil and dust. Do not use strong alkaline cleaners (such as 84 disinfectant) to prevent corrosion of plastic or metal parts.
- Rinsing and Drying: Rinse the wheels with water (avoid getting water into the bearings), wipe them dry with a cloth, and let them air dry in a well-ventilated area for 10 minutes to prevent rust from residual moisture.
Lubrication and Reassembly
- Adding Lubricant: Add 1-2 drops of office equipment-specific lubricant (such as WD-40) to the bearings, avoiding the use of cooking oil (which easily attracts dust).
- Rotation Test: Rotate the wheels by hand to evenly distribute the lubricant. Align the wheels with the bracket snaps and gently push until you hear a 'click' sound to confirm they are securely installed.
- Function Check: Turn the chair upright and push it to test. If there is still stuttering, disassemble and check again for any remaining debris.
Notes: It is recommended to clean every 3-6 months. For heavy use or when stains are present, shorten the cleaning cycle. After cleaning, maintain a well-ventilated environment to accelerate drying.
