How to Clean Office Chairs
Admin October 11, 2026
Cleaning office chairs can be done following these steps, covering the cleaning of the seat, backrest, armrests, and wheels:

Cleaning the Seat, Backrest, Armrests, and Chair Legs
- Overall Wiping Process: Follow a top-to-bottom order, cleaning the backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and chair legs sequentially. Ensure that each part is covered to avoid omissions.
- Cloth Selection: Use a slightly damp cloth that does not drip water to wipe, preventing moisture penetration that could deform the seat surface or leave water stains. If the seat material is leather, use a dedicated leather cleaner with a soft cloth to avoid damaging the surface.
- Deep Cleaning Stubborn Stains:
- Vacuuming: First, use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove surface dust and debris from crevices, especially for fabric seat surfaces, which can reduce the difficulty of subsequent cleaning.
- Foam Cleaning: For stubborn stains, spray a professional foam cleaner and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the cleaner to fully penetrate the fibers and break down the stains.
- High-Temperature Treatment: Use high-temperature steam equipment (such as a garment steamer) to disinfect and further clean the seat surface. High temperatures can soften stains and kill bacteria, but be careful to control the temperature to avoid scalding the material.
Cleaning Office Chair Wheels
- Hair Entanglement Handling:
- Scissor Trimming: Use small scissors to carefully cut off hair entangled around the wheels, being patient to avoid damaging the wheels.
- Disassembly Cleaning Method: Turn the chair upside down (seat facing down), hold the wheel bracket with your hand, and gently pull out the wheels outward (most are snap-fit designs). If stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the snap-fit and remove the wheels. Then, use tweezers to pull out hair and fibers from the crevices along the rotation direction.
- Dirt Cleaning:
- Facial Tissue Friction Method: Wet a used facial tissue and let it air dry slightly. Wrap the concave-convex side around the wheels and secure it with a rubber band. Sit on the chair and move back and forth to remove dirt using friction.
- Neutral Dish Soap Brushing: Use an old toothbrush dipped in a small amount of neutral dish soap to gently brush the wheel surface and bearing crevices to remove dust and grease. Rinse and dry with a dry cloth, and air dry for 10 minutes (avoid getting water into the bearings).
- Subsequent Handling:
- After cleaning, wipe the floor with a cloth to avoid leaving stains.
- After the wheels are dry,ๆปด (add) 1-2 drops of dedicated lubricant for office equipment (avoid using cooking oil) at the bearings and rotate the wheels to evenly distribute the lubricant. When reinstalling, align with the bracket snap-fit and push in until you hear a 'click' sound. Confirm it is secure, turn the chair upright, and test the smoothness of the wheels. If there is jamming, check for residual debris.
- Preventing Dirt: Stick invisible tape to the wheels. The tape should be of moderate width and stickiness, leaving almost no adhesive residue when torn off. Keep wrinkles when sticking to increase friction and prevent the wheels from being too slippery.
