How to Clean Office Chairs

Admin October 10, 2026

Cleaning office chairs requires targeted methods based on different components and materials, as detailed below:

Caster Cleaning

  1. Hair Entanglement Handling

    • Disassemble the Casters: Turn the office chair upside down (with the seat facing down), and gently pull out the casters by holding the caster brackets with your hands (most are designed with snap-in mechanisms). If they are stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edges of the snap-in mechanism, avoiding scratches on the brackets. After removal, inspect each caster for trapped hair and debris.
    • Remove Debris: Use tweezers to pick out long hair strands and fibers from the gaps in the casters (operate in the direction of rotation), then use an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to gently scrub the surface and bearing gaps to remove dust and grease. Finally, rinse with water (avoid getting water into the bearings), dry with a dry cloth, and ventilate for 10 minutes.
    • Lubricate and Reinstall: After drying, apply 1-2 drops of office equipment-specific lubricant to the bearings (avoid using cooking oil), and rotate the casters to evenly distribute the lubricant. When reinstalling, align the casters with the bracket snap-in mechanism and push them in until you hear a 'click' to confirm they are securely installed. Turn the chair upright and test by pushing it; if there is still stuttering, check for remaining debris.
  2. Dirt Cleaning
Wet a used facial cloth and let it air dry slightly. Wrap the textured side around the wheels and secure it with a rubber band. Sit on the chair and move back and forth, using friction to transfer dirt onto the facial cloth. Repeat the operation until clean.

  3. Stain Prevention
Stick invisible tape onto the wheels, choosing tape of appropriate width and moderate stickiness. Keep the surface wrinkled when sticking to avoid the wheels being too slippery, and there will be almost no sticky residue after removal.

Mesh Office Chair Cleaning

Requires multi-step deep cleaning:

  1. Brushing: Initially remove surface dust.
  2. Pretreatment: Spray a specialized cleaner on stubborn stains.
  3. Spot Stain Treatment: Use a soft-bristled brush or sponge to scrub locally.
  4. Water Circulation Cleaning: Use high-pressure water to flush the internal fibers, removing deep-seated dirt.
  5. Steam Deep Cleaning and Disinfection: Use high-temperature steam to kill bacteria and eliminate odors.
Note: Simply wiping the surface is not enough for thorough cleaning; ensure the internal fibers are also treated.

Regular Chair Deep Cleaning

  1. Comprehensive Vacuuming: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust and debris from gaps.
  2. Apply Professional Foam: Spray foam cleaner to fully penetrate and fix the fibers, breaking down stains.
  3. High-Temperature Treatment: Use high-temperature steam equipment or a hot towel to wipe, disinfecting and softening stubborn dirt at the same time.
