How to Clean Dust from Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

You can refer to the following methods to clean dust from office chairs. Adjust the operations flexibly according to the chair material and the degree of dust accumulation:

1. Preliminary Dust Removal and Loose Debris Handling Use a duster or a soft-bristled brush (such as a horsehair brush) starting from the top of the chair. Follow the order of the chair back, seat cushion, armrests, and then the base wheels, and gently dust off the surface floating dust. This step can prevent dust from being embedded into the fabric fibers or scratching the leather surface due to friction during subsequent cleaning. For debris stuck in the crevices (such as food residues and paper scraps), you can use tweezers or tape to pick them up, reducing the risk of clogging the vacuum cleaner.

2. Deep Vacuum Cleaning Equip with fabric-specific vacuum cleaner attachments (such as a wide flat nozzle) and crevice tools to thoroughly vacuum the chair:

  • Fabric surface: Set the suction power to a medium-low level and slowly move the nozzle along the direction of the fabric texture to avoid fabric deformation caused by high suction. For stubborn hair or fluff, you can activate the turbo brush mode of the vacuum cleaner (if supported) to strip off the attachments by rotating the brush head.
  • Crevices and corners: Use the crevice tool to reach into hidden areas such as the seams between the chair back and seat cushion, under the armrests, and around the wheel axles to remove accumulated dust. If you lack professional tools, you can use a compressed air can (such as the one used for cleaning keyboards) to blow into the crevices, blow out the dust, and then vacuum it up.
  • Leather/vinyl material: Switch to a furniture cushion attachment brush. Its soft bristles can prevent scratching the surface. At the same time, ensure that the suction power is not too strong (it is recommended to set it to the lowest level) to avoid wrinkles on the leather caused by negative pressure.

3. Handling Special Situations

  • Stubborn stains: If the dust has mixed with grease or liquid to form stains, you need to first wipe the area locally with a slightly damp soft cloth (for fabric chairs) or a special leather cleaner (for leather chairs), and then vacuum after it dries.
  • Wheel cleaning: Turn the chair over, brush the tangled hair on the wheel surface with an old toothbrush, then wipe the axle part with a damp cloth, and finally dry it with a dry cloth and spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to prevent jamming.

Precautions:

  • It is recommended to clean the chair once a week (in environments prone to dust accumulation) or once a month (in ordinary office scenarios) to extend the chair's service life.
  • Avoid using a hard-bristled brush or chemical solvents (such as alcohol) to directly clean the fabric to prevent fading or fiber damage; leather chairs should be kept away from acidic cleaners to prevent surface cracking.
  • If the chair has a removable fabric cover, you can machine-wash it directly (follow the water temperature instructions on the label), but make sure it is completely dry before putting it back on to prevent mildew.
