How to Care for Office Chairs
Caring for office chairs involves both cleaning and daily maintenance. Scientific operation can extend their lifespan and ensure a healthy sitting posture.

Cleaning
Seat Surface Cleaning: Follow a top-to-bottom order (backrest โ seat cushion โ armrests โ legs), using a slightly damp, non-dripping cloth to wipe, avoiding water stains. For mesh chairs, first wipe with clean water, then use a semi-dry cloth to handle water stains; for stubborn stains, use a small brush dipped in a mild alkaline detergent to gently scrub the mesh pores, preventing fiber damage.
Caster Cleaning:
- Handling Tangled Hair:
- Manually trim with small scissors, or use a disassembly cleaning method: Turn the chair upside down, wrap a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth, gently pry open the edge of the clip, remove the casters, and use tweezers to pick out hair from the gaps (operate in the direction of rotation).
- For severe tangling, use invisible tape to remove it, which is slip-resistant and leaves no adhesive residue.
- Cleaning Wheel Dirt:
- Fix a dry face towel (with the textured side wrapping the wheels) and move the chair to remove dirt; or use an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to gently scrub the surface of the casters and the gaps in the bearings, rinse with clean water, wipe dry, and air dry for 10 minutes.
- Subsequent Treatment:
- After drying,ๆปด (add) 1-2 drops of special lubricating oil to the bearings and rotate the casters to distribute it evenly; when reinstalling, ensure the clip makes a 'click' sound to confirm it is secure, test the smoothness, and check for residual debris if there is any stuttering.
Daily Maintenance
Adjusting Seat Height: Keep your feet flat on the ground, with your thighs and calves at a 95ยฐ-100ยฐ angle; for those who are shorter, use a footrest to keep the knees slightly higher than the hips, relieving hamstring tension.
Lumbar Support: The support point should accurately land on the natural curve of the waist, maintaining a 15ยฐ forward convexity of the spine; if the original support is insufficient, use a towel roll or memory foam lumbar support to fill the gap, maintaining a slight forward tilt of the waist and reducing lumbar pressure by 60%.
Monitor Height: The top edge should be parallel to the line of sight, avoiding neck strain from looking down or up, which can be achieved by using a stand to elevate a laptop or adjusting a desktop monitor.
Armrest Adjustment: When the arms hang naturally, the elbows should lightly rest on the armrests, with the forearms and upper arms at a 90ยฐ angle, preventing shrugged shoulders; adjustable-angle armrests are more suitable for multiple scenarios.
Maintaining a Dynamic Sitting Posture: Every 20 minutes of sitting, follow the '20-20 rule' (stand against the wall for 20 seconds, aligning the back of the head and calves with the vertical line), or get up and move every 30 minutes (such as stretching or answering phone calls), avoiding continuous sitting for more than 90 minutes.
Through systematic cleaning and scientific maintenance, office chairs can not only remain clean but also provide ergonomic support for users, reducing the risk of musculoskeletal strain.
