How to Adjust Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

There are various ways to adjust office chairs, mainly including adjusting the headrest, adjusting the seat height, adjusting the backrest recline, and performing simple stretching exercises while working.

Adjusting the Headrest: Some office chairs have a flexible headrest design. For example, the headrest of the Sihoo S300 is integrated with the backrest, allowing for forward and backward adjustment. By moving the headrest forward or backward, it can better match the heights of different people, providing comfortable support for the head and reducing neck pressure, especially suitable for those who work long hours.

Adjusting the Seat Height: This is one of the most basic and commonly used adjustment methods for office chairs. First, locate the hand control device, usually located under the seat. For some common adjustment methods, you can pull up the control lever or turn the knob to adjust the height. Once adjusted to a comfortable position, move the lever back to its original position to secure it. For some pneumatic office chairs, you need to repeatedly push the lever up and down to raise or lower the seat. If you cannot adjust the seat properly while sitting, you can adjust it from a standing position, ensuring that the front of the chair is just below your knees, which helps ensure that the adjusted height meets ergonomic requirements. Additionally, choosing the right height for different tasks is also important. When working on a computer, keep your eyes level with the monitor to avoid excessive forward or backward neck extension; when working on a desk, keep your elbows at desk height to reduce arm and shoulder fatigue; when sitting for long periods, adjust the height so that your feet are flat on the floor, which helps maintain proper sitting posture and reduces lower back pressure.

Adjusting the Backrest Recline: After sitting on the office chair, locate the adjustment lever, pull the lever while gently leaning back with your back, and release the lever to secure the backrest at the desired angle. If you want to return the backrest to its original position, continue pulling the lever and gently push with your back, and the backrest will spring back. For some office chairs, the flat-lying function of the backrest is usually operated by the lever under the right armrest; while the forward and backward rocking function can be adjusted by rotating the black cylinder in front of the chair's gas lift to meet different rest needs.

Performing Simple Stretching Exercises While Working: Sitting in an office chair for long periods can easily lead to body stiffness, so performing simple stretching exercises is necessary. Sit forward on the office chair, reach as far as you can, place one hand on the outside of the opposite foot, and use the other hand to push against the chair to create resistance, holding statically and breathing. Inhale into your chest and exhale while twisting backward, looking over your shoulder. After completing one side, switch to the other side, which helps relieve fatigue in the lower back and back.
