Ergonomic Furniture Perfect for Home Offices
Since lockdowns began, people have reported an increase in musculoskeletal pain. According to the charity Versus Arthritis, four in five people who started working from home during the pandemic experienced some form of musculoskeletal pain.
The charity's nationwide survey found that among people who began working from home during lockdown, 89% suffered back, shoulder, or neck pain from their new workspacesโbut never told their employers. Around 23% said they now experience musculoskeletal pain all or most of the time, and fewer than half (46%) said they are now having to take more painkillers than they would like.
The most common complaint among respondents was lower back pain, with 50% experiencing it. Neck pain came next at 36%, followed by shoulder pain at 28%. Yet failing to discuss this pain with employers means people cannot arrange alternative workspaces or suitable furniture.

Among office workers who had to work from home during lockdown, about 35% received no equipment, advice, or support from their employers while working at home. Those working for large enterprises (250-499 employees) fared even worse, with 45% receiving no support at all.
Ergonomic Furniture for the Home Office
For those who will be working from home for the foreseeable future, the answer may be ergonomic office furniture. Ergonomically designed furniture gives users adjustments to ensure they can work comfortably and with proper support. This helps relieve stress and pain, as well as any long-term damage that poor posture might cause.
Because many people were not working from home before this year, most lack a proper home office setup. Many have had to work from the sofa or the dining table. This is where the ergonomic office chair comes in.
An ergonomic office chair provides the right level of lumbar support and multiple adjustments to ensure you can sit comfortablyโwhich is vital when you spend long hours at a desk. Failing to set up an office chair correctly, or working long hours in the wrong type of chair, can lead to pain, discomfort, and long-term health effects.
Of course, sitting all day is not the best option either. You should take regular breaks, but you might also consider an ergonomic desk. A height-adjustable desk lets you set the desk at the right height for comfortable work, and also lets you switch from sitting to standing at the touch of a button. That means you can stretch your back and refresh yourself before wrapping up the workday.
