Easy Office Chair Renovation
The renovation of an easy office chair can be carried out according to the following steps, and the operation should be meticulous and safety-conscious:

Removing Old Fabric and Cleaning
If you need to replace the chair's fabric, first remove the old fabric. Use tailor's scissors or specialized tools to carefully peel off the old fabric, avoiding damage to the chair frame. At the same time, use a staple remover to clear away any remaining staples to prevent hand injuries during subsequent operations. If the chair frame needs treatment, first remove soft padding parts such as the seat cushion and backrest, and clean the surface of stains, dust, or old paint. For reusable accessories like screws and buckles, keep them properly and mark their positions for easy subsequent installation. For example, rust on a metal frame can be gently wiped away with a steel wool pad, and old paint on a wooden frame can be carefully scraped off with a spatula.
Frame Repair and Sanding
For wooden or metal frames, check their structural stability. If the chair legs are loose, use woodworking glue for reinforcement; when the joints are cracked, use metal corner braces or professional reinforcement parts for repair. If the damage is severe, it is advisable to contact a professional for handling to avoid causing more serious problems through self-repair. After repair, sand the frame surface with sandpaper (such as 240-grit), especially the parts that need painting. When sanding, operate along the wood grain direction to remove burrs and old paint layers, making the surface flat and smooth. After sanding a metal frame, wipe it clean with a dry cloth to remove iron filings and dust.
Painting or Reupholstering
- Painting: Choose an environmentally friendly wood paint, such as water-based paint or Sanqing paint, and adjust the color according to your needs. Apply thin coats with a roller or brush in 2 - 3 times, with an interval of 2 - 3 hours between each coat to ensure an even paint layer. Use a small brush to touch up the gaps or details, and finally lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper to enhance the gloss. If using a spray paint method, maintain a distance of 20 - 30 centimeters and spray in multiple times to avoid excessive paint thickness causing runs. For example, someone sprayed the support rods of an office chair with silver spray paint, giving it a brand-new look.
- Reupholstering: Choose wear-resistant fabrics such as tech fabrics or canvas. When cutting, make the fabric size about 5 centimeters larger than the frame to reserve a fixing edge. Cover the fabric over the frame, pull it tight from the center to the surroundings, and fix it every 3 centimeters with a pneumatic staple gun or a manual U-shaped staple to ensure the fabric is flat and wrinkle-free. If you need to splice fabrics, use a sewing machine to overlock the edges to prevent fraying. You can also, as some people do when renovating an office chair, brush on glue and use a stapler to staple the edges of the seat cushion and backrest. However, this method has relatively poor fastness and is suitable for temporary use.
