Dirty Spots on Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

When office chairs are dirty and have black spots, it's necessary to choose the appropriate cleaning method based on the material. Here is a specific cleaning guide:

Fabric Office Chairs

  • Ordinary Stains: Dip a soft cloth into a cleaning solution made of neutral soap and warm water, and gently wipe the stained area. Be careful not to over-wet it to prevent the filling from getting damp. Wipe along the fabric texture to avoid damaging the fabric.
  • Stubborn Stains: First, sprinkle baking soda on the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Baking soda has the function of absorbing odors and stains. Then, use a vacuum cleaner to clean up the baking soda and the stain. This method can remove both the stain and the odor.
  • Removable Fabric Covers: Wash them in a washing machine according to the instructions on the label. Choose an appropriate washing mode and a mild detergent.
  • Fixed Fabric Covers: Manually wipe the local area. For dirtier parts, you can wipe them several times.

Leather Office Chairs

  • Daily Cleaning: First, remove dust with a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner to prevent the dust from scratching the leather surface during wiping. Then, gently wipe the leather surface with a special leather cleaner or a 1:1 diluted white vinegar solution (test it in a hidden place first to ensure it won't damage the leather).
  • Oil Stains or Pen Marks: Dip a cotton swab in a small amount of alcohol and wipe quickly. However, be careful to avoid prolonged contact between the alcohol and the leather to prevent damage to the leather's texture and color.
  • Post-Wiping Maintenance: After cleaning, apply an appropriate amount of leather conditioner to keep the leather soft and shiny. At the same time, strictly avoid exposing the leather office chair to direct sunlight. Also, do not use strong detergents such as turpentine or gasoline, as these substances can cause serious damage to the leather.

Mesh Office Chairs

  • Without a Vacuum Cleaner: First, remove dust with a feather duster. Prepare an appropriate amount of cleaning solution and wash the chair. Use a soft brush to scrub the detailed parts. Finally, place it in a well-ventilated place to air dry naturally.
  • With a Vacuum Cleaner and a High-Temperature Cleaner: Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the entire chair thoroughly. Dilute the cleaner and spray it on the chair. Let the cleaner sit for a while to allow the stains to detach from the fibers. Then, use a high-temperature cleaner to extract and wash, and finally dry it with a dryer. If you don't have these devices, follow the method for without a vacuum cleaner.

General Precautions: After cleaning the office chair, place it in a well-ventilated place to air dry naturally. Do not expose it to direct sunlight. Avoid scrubbing the chair surface vigorously. Do not use a wet cloth to directly wipe wooden or iron chair legs. Regularly pat the areas where you sit for a long time and check if the screws and springs are loose. Use neutral cleaners and avoid using strongly corrosive chemical reagents.
