Descending Office Chair Methods

Admin October 09, 2026

The methods for lowering office chairs vary depending on their type, mainly divided into manual and automatic adjustment methods.

Manual Adjustment Office Chairs

  • Regular Manual Adjustment: First, locate the adjustment handle on the chair base, usually positioned at the center or side of the bottom of the chair. After confirming that the current state allows for lowering, try gently pressing down or rotating the handle. Since the handle controls one or more adjustment rods that connect the chair base to the seat, when lowering, slightly move the seat forward or backward while operating the handle to achieve seat lowering.
  • Hydraulic Office Chairs: For hydraulic office chairs, find the adjustment rod beneath the seat. Pull up the adjustment rod and press down, and the seat will slowly descend. During operation, be careful not to over-adjust the height to avoid damaging the gas spring. The gas spring is a key component for the lifting function of hydraulic office chairs, and over-adjustment may affect its service life and safety.
  • General Lifting Chairs: When using a general lifting chair, you can first stand up straight or slightly lift yourself to reduce pressure on the chair. Then, gently pull or press the control lever while maintaining slight pressure on the chair to adjust its height. This operation method allows for more precise control of the lowering amplitude, preventing it from descending too quickly or slowly.

Automatic Adjustment Office Chairs

Some high-end office chairs are equipped with automatic lifting functions, and the lowering operation can be achieved using electric adjustment buttons. Locate the electric buttons on the side of the chair, press the "lower" button, and the seat will automatically adjust to the preset height. This adjustment method is more convenient and faster, but be sure to maintain stability during the adjustment process to avoid accidents caused by sudden lowering.

Precautions:

  • During the adjustment of office chairs, regardless of the method used, avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to chair components. Each component of the chair has a specific load-bearing range, and excessive force may cause damage to adjustment rods, gas springs, and other components, affecting the normal use of the chair.
  • Maintain a steady speed when lowering to avoid accidents caused by sudden lowering. Sudden lowering may cause the user to lose balance and fall, especially when adjusting while sitting on the chair, so extra caution is required.
