Dealing with Office Chair Sliding

Admin October 10, 2026

There are several main methods for dealing with office chair sliding:

Using fixed chair feet design: This is a relatively direct and effective way to fix the chair. Fixed feet are usually made of hard materials such as metal or hard plastic, which can firmly support the chair and prevent it from sliding easily. This design has a very good fixing effect and can meet the requirements of environments with high demands for stability, such as laboratories and precision instrument operation rooms. However, its drawback is also quite obvious, that is, it sacrifices the convenience of movement. Once the chair is fixed, it requires a great deal of effort to move it, and may even require the use of other tools. Therefore, this design is more suitable for occasions where the chair does not need to be moved frequently.

Using wheels with brakes: Wheels with brakes are a flexible and practical solution. These wheels are usually equipped with a braking device that can be easily locked or unlocked to control the movement of the chair. When the chair needs to be fixed, simply step on the brake; when the chair needs to be moved, release the brake. This design has high flexibility and can meet the needs of different occasions. However, its drawback is that it requires locking and unlocking each of the five wheels separately, which can be a bit cumbersome to operate.

Using gravity self-locking wheel design: Gravity self-locking wheels are a more intelligent design. They use the human body's gravity as a trigger mechanism. When a person sits on the chair, the wheels automatically lock; when the person gets up, the wheels automatically unlock. This design is both convenient and practical, allowing the chair to be fixed and moved without manual operation. However, its cost may be relatively high, and for people with lighter weights, it may not be able to trigger the locking mechanism.

Placing a rough carpet under the chair: This is a simple and economical solution. By increasing the friction between the chair and the ground, the sliding of the chair can be reduced. This method is suitable for occasions with low requirements for fixation, such as home offices and meeting rooms. However, its fixing effect may not be as significant as the previous methods, and the cleaning and maintenance of the carpet may also bring some trouble.

Using invisible tape: This is a relatively novel and practical method. Stick the invisible tape on the wheels, and do not stick it too flat when sticking. Having some wrinkles can prevent the wheels from being too slippery. This method hardly leaves any adhesive residue on the wheels and is simple and convenient to operate. However, its fixing effect may vary depending on the quality of the tape and the length of use.
