Common Office Chair Installation

Admin October 09, 2026

The installation steps for a common office chair are as follows:

I. Prepare Components
Before installation, ensure all parts are complete, including chair legs, casters, gas lift, base, seat, backrest, armrests, headrest, and matching screws (such as short screws and long screws). It is recommended to categorize and place the components to avoid omission or confusion.

II. Install Casters and Chair Legs
Vertically insert the casters into the five-pronged holes of the chair legs, ensuring each caster is fully embedded and secure. Some chair legs may require rotating or lightly pressing to fix the casters. After installation, check the firmness by gently shaking.

III. Install the Gas Lift
Vertically insert the gas lift into the center hole of the chair legs, ensuring the lift body is fully in contact with the chair legs. The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the seat height. During installation, keep it vertical to avoid instability during subsequent use due to tilting.

IV. Secure the Base and Seat
Use short screws to fix the base to the underside of the seat, usually requiring four screws to be tightened. For some designs, align the base with the tray (located at the bottom of the seat) before fixing. Pay attention to matching the screw specifications to avoid damaging the seat structure with overly long screws.

V. Connect the Backrest and Seat
Connect the backrest to the seat using angle brackets or screws. Ensure the groove on the backrest rod faces upwards to ensure the backrest tilt function works properly. For some models, insert the backrest rod into the tray hole and tighten it with a nut. After installation, check if the backrest is secure.

VI. Assemble Armrests and Headrest
Use long screws to fix the armrests on both sides of the seat, ensuring symmetry. The headrest is usually installed on the top of the backrest using clips or screws. Align the holes and gently press to secure it during installation. Some headrests support height adjustment, so ensure the adjustment mechanism is flexible.

VII. Insert the Gas Lift and Adjust
Vertically insert the seat assembly (including the base, backrest, and armrests) into the top of the gas lift, ensuring a secure connection. After installation, test the lifting function of the gas lift by gently pressing down and adjust the seat height to a suitable position.

VIII. Function Test
Check if the seat's rotation, lifting, and tilting functions are normal, if the armrests are secure, and if the headrest adjustment is flexible. If any abnormalities are found, recheck if the screws are tightened or if the components are aligned.

Precautions:

  • It is recommended to install from the bottom up (casters โ†’ chair legs โ†’ gas lift โ†’ seat โ†’ backrest โ†’ armrests) to avoid repeated disassembly.
  • The screw specifications must be strictly matched. Short screws are used for tray fixation, and long screws are used for armrest installation.
  • When disassembling, perform the operations in reverse order. However, the gas lift and chair legs may be tightly fitted due to long-term use, requiring a rubber mallet to gently tap for separation.
  • Different brands or models of office chairs may have detail differences. It is recommended to refer to the product manual or installation video first.
