Cleaning Methods for Fabric Office Chairs
Admin October 10, 2026
Cleaning fabric office chairs requires targeted methods based on different materials, as detailed below:

I. Ordinary Fabric Chairs
- Initial Cleaning: Gently wipe the surface with a soft cloth dampened in clean water, following the fabric's grain to remove dust and loose stains. Avoid pressing hard to prevent stains from seeping deeper into the fibers.
- Deep Cleaning: Dissolve mild soap in warm water to create a soapy solution. Dip a soft-bristled brush into the solution and gently scrub the stained area in a circular motion, applying even and moderate pressure. After cleaning, repeatedly wipe with a soft cloth dampened in clean water until all soap residue is removed. For stubborn stains, repeat the process 2-3 times.
- Drying: Allow the chair to air dry naturally in a well-ventilated, shaded area to prevent fabric fading or fiber hardening caused by direct sunlight. Once completely dry, it can be briefly exposed to sunlight in the morning or evening for sterilization, but keep the duration short (no more than 1 hour).
II. Tech Fabric Seats
- Dust Removal: Use a small vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to suck up dust along the seat's seams and surface grain, focusing on cleaning accumulated dust in the seams. If a vacuum cleaner is unavailable, use wide adhesive tape to remove dust by sticking it in reverse.
- Stain Pretreatment: For oil stains, coffee stains, etc., use a clean damp cloth to dab a small amount of mild detergent onto the stained area for local cleaning. For stubborn stains, let it sit for 3-5 minutes before treatment. Never use hot water to prevent the tech fabric coating from peeling off.
- Overall Cleaning: Dilute a neutral detergent solution in a 1:20 ratio and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray evenly onto the seat's surface and gently wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth following the grain. Excessive detergent concentration can harden the fabric, so strictly control the amount used.
- Residue Removal: Repeatedly wipe 2-3 times with a clean cloth dampened in clean water to ensure no detergent residue remains. Finally, use a dry cloth to absorb surface moisture and prevent it from seeping inside and causing mold.
- Drying Requirements: Allow the seat to air dry naturally in a well-ventilated area. Avoid using a hairdryer or radiator to speed up drying, as high temperatures can crack the tech fabric's surface.
III. Mesh Fabric Office Chairs
- Dusting Stage: Use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove dust. If no equipment is available, use a feather duster to gently dust along the mesh's direction.
- Detergent Application: Dilute a specialized mesh fabric cleaner in a 1:10 ratio and spray it onto the stained area or inject it into the steam cleaner's water tank. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then gently brush along the mesh's direction with a soft-bristled brush to avoid breaking the mesh threads by brushing against the grain.
- Equipment Assistance: If available, use a high-temperature steam cleaner for extraction cleaning, followed by low-temperature drying with a dryer. If no equipment is available, wipe with a slightly damp towel and air dry in a well-ventilated area. Never expose it to direct sunlight.
General Precautions:
- Material Protection: Avoid using bleach, strong acids, or strong alkalis to prevent fabric fading or corrosion.
- Removable Parts: If the chair cover is removable, it is recommended to have it professionally cleaned at a dry cleaner's. Ensure zippers/buttons are fully closed during installation.
- Daily Maintenance: Wipe the surface with a dry cloth weekly and perform a deep cleaning monthly to extend the chair's lifespan.
