Cleaning Blood Stains on Office Chairs
Cleaning blood stains on office chairs requires selecting the appropriate method based on the material. The core principle is to treat them with cold water immediately to prevent the blood stains from solidifying.

General First-Aid Four-Step Method
- Immediate Blotting/Rinsing: Use clean paper towels or a dry cloth to blot the surface blood. For fabric chair surfaces, rinse from the back of the stain with running cold water to wash away the unsolidified blood.
- Cold Water Soaking: Soak the stained area in cold water for 10 - 30 minutes. Gently rub the edges of the blood stain to prevent the stained area from expanding.
- Gentle Detergent Cleaning: Apply a neutral detergent, soap, or an enzyme-based special cleaner (such as enzyme-containing laundry detergent) to the stain. Gently scrub or wipe. Enzymes can break down proteins.
- Complete Drying: After cleaning, ensure that the cleaned part of the chair is completely dry. It can be air-dried naturally or blotted dry with a dry cloth to prevent bacterial growth or mildew.
Treatment by Material
- Leather Office Chairs: After blotting the blood stain, use a slightly damp soft cloth dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to gently wipe the blood-stained area, avoiding excessive wetness. For stubborn stains, try a small amount of medical alcohol (75%) or a special leather cleaner. Test it in an inconspicuous area first. After cleaning, wipe off the residual cleaner with a wet towel, dry it with a dry towel, and apply a special leather conditioner for maintenance after it is completely dry.
- Mesh/Fabric Office Chairs: Immediately soak the stained area in cold water. For non-removable mesh chairs, rinse repeatedly with cold water or apply a towel soaked in cold water. Use soapy water or an enzyme-containing detergent to scrub gently. You can first use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly vacuum the chair. Spray the diluted cleaner on the stain, let it sit, and then use a water absorber or a dry towel to absorb the solution. Ensure it is completely dry.
Treatment of Old or Stubborn Blood Stains
First, spray alcohol to break down the blood stain and wait for about 5 minutes. Then, use a collar cleaner to further break it down and scrub with a brush. After scrubbing, spray the collar cleaner again and let it sit for half an hour. After half an hour, scrub repeatedly with a wet brush for two or three minutes. Then, wipe the chair with a wet cloth. Finally, pour a color-safe bleach on a water-soaked wet cloth and apply it to the blood stain. Let it sit for about half an hour and check. If the blood stain is almost gone, wipe repeatedly with a clean wet cloth to remove the residual cleaning solution. You can also drop a few drops of hydrogen peroxide on the blood stain or use a cotton ball dipped in white vinegar to gently wipe.
Precautions
Avoid hot water when treating blood stains, and keep the water temperature below 30 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to conduct a local test before using color-safe bleach, and adjust the soaking time according to the specific situation.
