Young Man Challenges Office Chair

Admin October 12, 2026

The young man's act of challenging an office chair may be related to the 'Chair-Stuck Challenge,' a popular online challenge that poses safety risks and is not recommended.

The 'Chair-Stuck Challenge' typically involves inserting both legs into the armrests of a chair or placing one's head and arms into a plastic stool, with most challengers getting stuck in the process. For example, on July 10, 2026, a primary school graduate in Huai'an, Jiangsu, had his legs stuck in the hollow slots of an office chair's armrests and was rescued by firefighters in about 2 minutes. This case vividly demonstrates the potential dangers of the challenge, as even seemingly simple actions can lead to being stuck due to the 'mismatch' between body parts and the chair's structure, resulting in physical injuries or psychological panic.

The main risks of the challenge are reflected in two aspects:

  1. Physical injury risk: When body parts (such as legs, head, or arms) are stuck in the gaps or armrests of a chair, they may suffer skin abrasions, soft tissue contusions due to compression, or even local swelling or nerve damage due to obstructed blood circulation. Attempting to forcefully break free may exacerbate injuries, such as fractures or muscle strains.
  2. Psychological and emergency response risks: After being stuck, challengers may be unable to handle the situation calmly due to nervousness or fear, while bystanders lacking rescue experience may adopt incorrect methods (such as pulling or hitting the chair), further increasing the danger. Additionally, if the stuck part is sensitive (such as the neck), prolonged pressure may lead to suffocation risk.

Safety advice:
The fire department reminds parents to strengthen safety education during holidays, clearly informing children of the dangers of such challenges to avoid accidents caused by imitating online behavior. If accidentally stuck, do not use brute force, such as forcefully pulling or hitting the chair, as this may cause secondary injuries. Stay calm immediately, try to slowly adjust your body posture, and if unable to free yourself, call 119 immediately and wait for professional rescuers to use hydraulic expanders and other tools for safe rescue.
