Xiamen Office Chair Explosion
There have indeed been multiple incidents of office chair (pneumatic lift chair) explosions in Xiamen, primarily caused by quality issues with the pneumatic rods or insufficient purity of nitrogen, posing significant safety hazards.

Typical Cases
Two serious explosion accidents involving pneumatic lift chairs occurred in Xiamen. In one case, a Ms. Lin was sitting on a lift chair to dry her hair after taking a shower when the chair suddenly exploded, injuring her lower body. Doctors removed a 20-centimeter-long pneumatic rod and numerous chair fragments from her body, resulting in severe perianal wounds. In another case, Ms. Liu was also injured by an exploding lift chair, with fragments removed from her intestines. She only survived after a five-hour surgical rescue. These cases demonstrate that pneumatic lift chair explosions can cause extremely severe physical harm.
Causes of Explosion
The core reasons for pneumatic lift chair explosions are closely related to the quality of the pneumatic rods and the purity of nitrogen. Legitimate pneumatic rods must pass 120,000 impact tests to ensure structural stability during long-term use. However, inferior pneumatic rods may have the following issues:
- Pneumatic Rod Cracks: Defects in materials or manufacturing processes can lead to cracks on the surface or inside the pneumatic rod, making it prone to breakage under pressure.
- Insufficient Nitrogen Purity: Legitimate pneumatic rods are filled with high-purity nitrogen as a buffer medium, while inferior products may be mixed with air or other gases, leading to unstable pressure.
- Long-term Wear: Frequent lifting and lowering can cause wear at the connection between the pneumatic rod and the seat. If not maintained promptly, this can lead to localized stress concentration. When these issues combine, the pneumatic rod may explode under uneven force (such as sudden sitting or rapid lifting), releasing tremendous energy.
Experimental Verification
Experiments show that second-hand or "three-no" pneumatic chairs are prone to explosion and combustion during simulated impact tests, while legitimate products can maintain structural integrity even under high-intensity impacts. This further proves that the safety risks of inferior pneumatic lift chairs are much higher than those of legitimate products.
Safety Warning
These incidents serve as a warning that inferior pneumatic lift chairs pose significant safety hazards. Consumers should prioritize purchasing legitimate products that have passed safety certifications and regularly inspect the condition of the pneumatic rods to avoid unnecessary risks.
