Wooden Office Chair Foldable

Admin October 11, 2026

Wooden office chairs can achieve folding functionality through various woodworking joinery methods.

One common approach is the use of mortise-and-tenon joint design. Some handcrafted solid wood folding chairs employ this design, eliminating the need for additional hardware components, showcasing ingenious craftsmanship. Mortise-and-tenon joints are a classic connection method in traditional Chinese woodworking, where precise fitting of tenons into mortises firmly connects various components. This structure not only ensures the chair's stability but also enables it to fold. The operation is simple, with one-click opening and closing for easy storage. When folded, the chair is very thin, occupying minimal space, making it ideal for office settings with limited space.

Another method involves using wooden boards. Start by finding a piece of plywood, then apply masking tape to its surface before drawing and cutting out the design. Use sandpaper to smooth the edges and corners, preventing skin abrasions during use. After assembling the pieces, use a hole saw to create circular holes and install hinges, which are crucial for enabling the chair to fold. Extend the chair to identify support points, mark them, and create notches to secure them, ensuring stability when the chair is open and preventing it from wobbling or folding easily. This method is relatively simple and suitable for individuals with some woodworking experience to make on their own.

There is also a convenient and lightweight method for making folding chairs using several ordinary wooden boards. First, fix four triangular wooden boards in pairs to form two rotatable supports. Triangles provide stability, offering good support for the chair. Then, stand the supports upright and horizontally fix wooden boards on the outer sides as backrests, preventing users from slipping off when sitting and enhancing the chair's safety and comfort. This folding chair has a simple structure, low production cost, and is easy to carry and store.
