Wooden Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 13, 2026

The disassembly of wooden office chairs requires different methods depending on their specific types. Common types include assembled solid wood dining chairs and regular office chairs. Here are the specific disassembly steps:

Assembled Solid Wood Dining Chairs

  • Screw Removal: The joints of these chairs usually feature a screw-and-dowel structure. The screws are typically located on the inner side of the chair legs or in concealed areas of the backrest. During disassembly, use an appropriate screwdriver to unscrew each screw one by one. When turning the screws, pay attention to applying moderate force to avoid stripping the screws or damaging the surrounding wood due to excessive force.
  • Dowel Separation: For the dowel part, gently tap the abutment with a rubber mallet. Since solid wood components are relatively brittle, use less force when tapping to prevent cracking the dowels or causing other damage to the wood. Through slow and gentle tapping, gradually separate the two dowels to complete this part of the disassembly.

Regular Office Chairs

  • Preliminary Preparation: First, turn the chair upside down and place it on the ground. At the same time, ensure there are no hard objects around to prevent the chair from being damaged by bumping into them during the disassembly process.
  • Seat and Backrest Separation: First, unscrew the screws connecting the seat and the backrest. When looking for the screw positions, carefully observe the chair structure. Usually, these screws are clearly visible at the connection points. After using the appropriate tool to unscrew them, the seat and the backrest can be initially separated.
  • Armrest Removal: Most armrests are fixed with hex socket screws. Use a hex key and turn the screws in the appropriate direction to remove each screw fixing the armrests one by one. During the disassembly process, be sure to keep the screws safe to avoid losing them.
  • Gas Cylinder and Base Separation: The base and the gas cylinder of an office chair are an interference fit and should not be pulled apart directly. Otherwise, the gas cylinder may be damaged or pop out and cause injury. Instead, gently tap the side of the connection between the base and the seat with a rubber mallet. By gradually applying force, slowly separate the base and the gas cylinder. During the tapping process, pay attention to applying even force to avoid excessive impact on the gas cylinder.
