Wheel Office Chair Repair
The following steps and methods can be referred to for the repair of wheel office chairs:

I. Check the wheels and the ground condition
Place the chair upright and confirm that each wheel foot is in contact with the ground. Then, turn the chair upside down and check for signs of damage such as bending, deformation, or breakage on the wheel feet. If the chair is placed on an uneven surface, the wheels may not all be in contact with the ground when not in use, and the chair may tilt towards the lower side when sat on. Adjust the ground or the chair position as needed.
II. Replace damaged wheels
- Obtain matching wheels: It is difficult to purchase a single wheel foot separately; usually, a complete set of matching wheels needs to be purchased. You can contact the chair manufacturer to provide the model number for ordering, or remove an old wheel and take it to an office supplies store to find a matching set. Pay attention to whether the shape and size of the wheel axle are consistent.
- Remove old casters:
- Hold the caster wheel with one hand and the bottom of the chair with the other hand, and pull firmly. The caster may pop out.
- If it cannot be pulled out by hand, insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point, and operate it back and forth slowly as a lever. Pull out about 1 centimeter (0.39 inches) and then pull the wheel foot again.
- In rare cases, the caster is fixed with screws. When you see the screw head, use a screwdriver to loosen the screw and remove it.
- Install new casters:
- Apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD-40) to each socket on the chair base. Insert the straw into the spray nozzle and insert it into each socket for a quick spray, about half a second per socket. If you do not have a lubricant spray, apply a pea-sized amount of petroleum jelly to each wheel axle.
- Use a rubber mallet to tap each caster into its chair socket. Align the caster rod with the intended base, and push it gently with your hand first. If it does not fit into place, pick up the rubber mallet and tap the caster lightly until the rod is fully inserted into the base. If the caster design allows, tap near the base of the stem rather than at the bottom of the wheel to reduce the risk of deformation or breakage of the new caster.
- Test the new wheels: Turn the chair upside down and sit on it to test the new wheels. If they roll smoothly and evenly and do not tilt to one side, the repair is complete. If the chair still tilts, continue to check the seat plate for damage.
III. Solve the problem of wheel debris
The black debris from office chair wheels mainly comes from friction and wear between the wheels and the ground, including wear of the wheel material itself, wear of the ground material, and the combination of ground dust and other impurities adsorbed by the wheels with their own wear products. Solutions: Replacing the wheels with a suitable material (such as polyurethane wheels or thermoplastic elastomer wheels) is the most thorough method. You can also try using masking tape. When wrapping the masking tape, wrap it multiple times, preferably at least two times or more.
