Disassembly of Office Chairs with Wheels

Admin October 16, 2026

The disassembly method for office chairs with wheels should be selected based on the wheel type and fastening method, choosing appropriate tools and operational steps. Common methods are as follows:

1. Pry-out Disassembly (for snap-fastened wheels)
Use a flat-head screwdriver or a specialized pry bar. Insert the tip of the tool into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg, and pry outward along the axis of the wheel. Since snap-fastened structures are usually tight, significant force may be required. It is recommended that a male perform the operation or use the principle of leverage to increase the length of the force arm. If there is a dust cover between the wheel and the chair leg, remove it before proceeding. When prying, keep the tool perpendicular to the surface of the chair leg to avoid scratching the metal or plastic coating.

2. Knocking Disassembly (for stubborn snap fasteners or rusted wheels)
When prying is ineffective, use a combination of pliers and a hammer. First, clamp the root of the wheel tightly with pliers, and pull slowly outward along the axis of the wheel while lightly tapping the end of the pliers' handle with a hammer to loosen the snap fastener through vibration. If pulling is still ineffective, invert the chair and lightly tap the top edge of the wheel with a flat-head screwdriver to separate the snap fastener from the chair leg. Then, lightly tap the side of the wheel with a hammer until the wheel comes off. Place a soft cloth under the chair leg during operation to prevent deformation caused by knocking.

3. Threaded Rotation Disassembly (for threaded-fastened wheels)
If the wheel is connected to the chair leg by threads, use a small wrench or an adjustable wrench to hold the root of the wheel and rotate the wheel counterclockwise (to the left). For severely rusted threads, spray a lubricant such as WD-40 first and wait 5-10 minutes before proceeding. When rotating, keep the wrench perpendicular to the axis of the wheel to avoid slipping. If the threads are damaged and the wheel cannot rotate, use needle-nose pliers to grip the edge of the wheel and apply force together with the wrench.

4. General Disassembly Precautions

  • Safety Protection: Wear protective gloves during operation to prevent metal cuts or flying debris from knocking.
  • Tool Matching: Choose tools based on the material of the wheel. Avoid using metal pry bars for plastic wheels to prevent breakage.
  • Force Control: Use a "light-heavy-light" rhythm when knocking to avoid applying excessive force at once, which could cause the chair leg to break.
  • Subsequent Processing: After disassembly, check whether the threads or snap fasteners on the chair leg are damaged. If replacing the wheel, ensure that the model of the new wheel matches the chair leg.

If the wheel still cannot be disassembled, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer for specialized tools or professional repair services to avoid damaging the chair through forced operation.
