Water-Washing Office Chairs

Admin October 08, 2026

Whether water-washing office chairs is feasible depends on their material and design, and cannot be generalized.

Office chairs made of metal and plastic: These are usually easier to water-wash. Such materials have good water resistance. When cleaning, you can mix a mild detergent with water and use a soft cloth or sponge dipped in the solution to wipe. Note that the water temperature should not be too high, as high temperatures may cause metal deformation or plastic aging. At the same time, avoid using bleach or strong acids and alkalis and other chemicals, as these substances may corrode the material surface, affecting the appearance and service life of the office chair. Also, do not use a hard brush for cleaning, as a hard brush can easily scratch the material surface and leave marks. After washing, rinse thoroughly with clean water to ensure no detergent residue remains, and then dry completely to prevent rust or mildew caused by water retention.

Leather office chairs: Cannot be water-washed. Water-washing can cause the leather to crack and deform, seriously affecting its appearance and usability. When cleaning a leather office chair, first use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the surface, and then wipe it with a special leather cleaning cream. The leather cleaning cream can gently remove stains while protecting the leather from damage. The entire cleaning process does not involve water-washing. After cleaning, apply a layer of conditioning solution for maintenance. The conditioning solution can moisturize the leather, prevent it from cracking, and extend the service life of the leather office chair.

Fabric office chairs: The proper cleaning process does not involve water-washing. First, use an industrial vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the crevices to ensure that dust does not reattach during subsequent cleaning. Then, use a high-foam sofa cleaning machine to create foam. The foam can decompose stains, making them easier to remove. Finally, use a water extractor to remove the sewage and foam together. The amount of water used in this entire process is minimal, which can prevent the fabric from deforming or getting mildewed due to excessive water absorption.

In addition, office chairs with complex designs and multiple assembled components are difficult to clean thoroughly, especially those hard-to-reach corners and crevices, which are prone to retaining stains and bacteria. In contrast, office chairs with simple designs are easier to water-wash. Different brands and models of office chairs may have unique characteristics, so be sure to check the instruction manual or consult the manufacturer before cleaning to ensure that the cleaning method is correct and will not damage the office chair.
