Uninstall Office Chair Wheels

The method for uninstalling office chair wheels should be selected based on the wheel type and fastening method. Here are the common types and their operating steps:

I. Snap-fit Wheels

1. Basic Pulling: Grasp the wheel with both hands and pull vertically upward. If there is significant resistance, use both palms to grip the base of the wheel and lift vertically. If necessary, lightly tap the bottom of the wheel axle with a rubber mallet to loosen the snap-fit using vibrations.
2. Anti-detachment Protrusion Handling: Some brands (such as Lianyou and Xihao) design anti-detachment protrusions at the base of the wheel axle. Press these protrusions inward before applying force to pull, preventing failure to disassemble due to the protrusions getting stuck.
3. Rotation Loosening Method: If the wheel is extremely difficult to pull out, hold the base of the wheel and rotate it 30° left and right to create a loosening gap before pulling vertically.
4. Tool Assistance:
   • Use needle-nose pliers to grip the joint between the wheel and the chair, find a fulcrum, and pry outward while rotating the wheel counterclockwise.
   • If the wheel axle separates from the plastic part and remains attached to the chair, grip the upper part of the ring and continue prying with the ring as the fulcrum.

II. Screw-fixed Wheels

1. Tool Selection:
   • For regular screws: Use a 15mm open-end wrench to rotate the fixing nut counterclockwise.
   • For hex socket screws: German brands (such as DXRacer) commonly use M8 hex socket screws. Prepare a hex key of the corresponding size.
2. Operating Points: When disassembling, keep the chair legs stable. You can ask someone to assist in holding the chair frame to prevent tilting or damage due to excessive force.

III. Insert-rod Wheels

1. Direct Pulling: If the connection between the wheel and the chair leg is loose, pull it out vertically directly.
2. Tool Prying: If direct pulling is difficult, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg, pry open the plastic snap-fit at the bottom, and then attempt to pull it out.
3. Tapping Method:
   • Use pliers to grip the wheel rod and lightly tap the pliers with a hammer to loosen the connection through vibrations.
   • If you lack strength, you can directly tap the wheel rod with the pliers, using the impact force to pull it out.

IV. Rust-induced Seizure Handling

If the wheel cannot be disassembled due to rust, drip a few drops of sewing machine oil at the connection between the axle sleeve and let it penetrate for 10 minutes. If necessary, use a hairdryer to heat the metal part to about 60°C (feels slightly hot but not scalding), utilizing the principle of thermal expansion and contraction to widen the gap, and then attempt the above disassembly methods again.

Precautions: Wear gloves during operation to avoid scratches or burns. If the wheel still cannot be disassembled, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician to avoid damage to the chair legs or wheels due to forced disassembly.
