Types of Office Chair Wheels

Admin October 16, 2026

There are various types of office chair wheels, with the following being the common ones:

Fixed wheels are a relatively basic type, characterized by the fact that once installed, the chair cannot be moved. These wheels are typically suitable for scenarios where the chair needs to remain in a fixed position, such as at specific office workstations. When users do not want the chair to slide freely, which could affect work operations or pose safety hazards, fixed wheels can serve their purpose by providing stable support.

Wheels with brake pads offer flexible braking functionality. Under normal conditions, the wheels can roll freely, facilitating chair movement; however, when it is necessary to fix the chair's position, simply operate the brake pads to stop the wheels from turning. These wheels are suitable for situations where chairs need to be moved and fixed frequently, such as in conference rooms where participants may need to adjust their seating positions according to the discussion and then want the chairs to remain neatly arranged after the discussion ends. Wheels with brake pads can well meet this requirement.

Seat-brake wheels have a unique design. Normally, they can roll like ordinary wheels, allowing users to move the chair freely; but when the user sits on the chair, the wheels automatically lock to prevent the chair from sliding. These wheels are suitable for scenarios where a stable sitting posture is required, such as during precise office operations like drawing or writing, where seat-brake wheels can avoid affecting work quality due to chair sliding.

PU silent wheels have become quite popular in recent years. Their soft material generates low noise when rolling, causing no disturbance to the office environment. At the same time, they do not leave scratches on tile surfaces and are very suitable for use on tiles, hard floors, wooden floors, etc., protecting the floor while providing a quiet office experience.

Ordinary hard plastic wheels are relatively common but have some drawbacks. They generate significant noise when rolling on tiles and may wear down the floor over long-term use, posing a relatively high risk of damage to the floor. Therefore, they are not very suitable for places where floor protection is required.

Hard wheels (such as nylon wheels) perform well on carpets. Compared to PU wheels, they have less rolling resistance on carpets and move more smoothly, reducing the effort required by users when moving the chair and enhancing comfort during use.

In addition, there are special types of wheels such as anti-static silent uncovered medical wheels and rubber seat casters, which are usually designed and applied according to specific usage requirements and environments.
