Squeaky Office Chair
A squeaky office chair may be caused by loose screws, worn or aging parts, uneven flooring, lack of lubrication, or product quality issues, and can be resolved by tightening screws, replacing parts, adjusting the floor, lubricating components, or replacing the chair.

Loose Screws
The screws at the connection points of the office chair's backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and base can become loose over time due to prolonged stress, causing friction or collision between parts and resulting in squeaking sounds. Solution: Use a Phillips or Allen wrench to tighten all visible screws one by one, focusing on the aforementioned connection points to ensure they are securely fastened without any looseness.Worn or Aging Parts
Wear or rust on the gas lift rod or height adjustment rod, cracks or looseness in the five-star base (five-claw base), lack of oil in the rocking base/reclining pivot, foreign objects stuck in the casters or damaged bearings, and fractures in the seat cushion/backrest wooden board/frame can all cause squeaking. Solution:
- Replace worn gas lift rods, height adjustment rods, or cracked five-star bases;
- Clean the pivots and joints and apply lubricating oil (such as WD-40, sewing machine oil, or grease), moving the parts to allow the lubricant to penetrate;
- Clean foreign objects from the casters or replace damaged bearings;
- Reinforce or replace fractured frames.
Uneven Flooring
An uneven floor can cause the office chair to bear uneven stress, resulting in wobbling or squeaking. Solution: Use anti-slip mats, wooden shims, or adjust the height of the foot pads to ensure the five-star base makes even contact with the floor, keeping the chair stable.Lack of Lubrication
Long-term friction without lubrication in areas such as the gas lift rod, reclining pivot, and five-star base joints can cause squeaking due to direct metal-to-metal contact. Solution: Spray lubricating oil (such as WD-40) on these areas and repeatedly move the parts (such as reclining, raising, lowering, and rotating) to ensure the lubricant fully covers the friction surfaces.Product Quality Issues
Low-priced, niche-brand office chairs may squeak due to substandard materials or design flaws. Solution: Choose office chairs that are ergonomically designed and have passed quality certifications, prioritizing well-known brands to reduce wear issues caused by unreasonable structures or fragile materials.
