Transformation of Iron Pillar Office Chair
Admin October 22, 2026
Refer to the following plan for transforming an iron pillar office chair, which requires completing preliminary preparations and main construction in steps:

Preliminary Preparations
Survey and Measurement
- Use a tape measure to measure the diameter (for round pillars) or side length (for square pillars) of the iron pillar, and record the total height.
- Check for exposed hardware, raised seams, or rusted areas on the surface, as these will affect the choice of subsequent transformation methods.
Determine Transformation Direction
- Judge the functional requirements of the iron pillar based on the usage scenario of the desk:
- Complete Concealment: Suitable for scenarios with low load-bearing requirements (such as side support pillars), but ensure that structural stability is not affected.
- Partial Retention: The middle support pillar of a small-sized desk needs to retain its structure, only enhancing its visual appeal through beautification.
- Judge the functional requirements of the iron pillar based on the usage scenario of the desk:
Tool and Material Preparation
- General Tools: Fine-grit sandpaper (for sanding), a brush (for cleaning), a utility knife (for cutting materials), a tape measure (for measurement), a small spirit level (to ensure flat็ฒ่ดด, here should be 'adhesion' but kept as is for context), adhesive such as nail-free glue or white latex (for fixing materials).
- Transformation Materials (choose according to style):
- Skin Application Transformation: Real wood self-adhesive skin or matte self-adhesive wallpaper (should match the color scheme of the desk surface).
- Hemp Rope Wrapping: Natural hemp rope with a diameter of 3mm, nail-free glue.
- Industrial Style: Black wire mesh, self-tapping screws (matching existing holes), vintage stickers.
- Fabric Wrapping: Linen fabric, double-sided tape, wooden decorative buttons.
Transformation Process
Cleaning and Pretreatment
- Wipe off dust and oil stains on the surface of the iron pillar with a damp cloth. Stubborn adhesive residues can be removed with a small amount of alcohol. Ensure complete drying before construction.
Flaw Repair
- Screw Holes/Depressions: Fill with putty of the same color, sand flat with fine-grit sandpaper after drying.
- Surface Rust: First sand off the rust layer with a steel wool pad, apply an anti-rust primer, and let it dry for at least 2 hours to prevent further rusting.
Main Transformation
- Skin Application Transformation (minimalist style):
Peel off a corner of the self-adhesive skin, start applying from the top of the iron pillar, peel off the backing while using a hard card to smooth the surface to avoid air bubbles. Cut the edges to fit the shape with a utility knife, fold the excess at the bottom to the inside, and fix with white latex. - Hemp Rope Wrapping (Nordic/Japanese style):
Start from the bottom, wrap the hemp rope evenly at a 1cm interval, press and fix each circle with nail-free glue, and finish at the top by cutting off the excess. - Industrial Style Transformation:
Fix the black wire mesh with self-tapping screws to cover the surface of the iron pillar, and enhance the visual effect with vintage stickers. - Fabric Wrapping:
Wrap the linen fabric around the iron pillar, fix the edges with double-sided tape, and add wooden buttons at the top as decoration.
- Skin Application Transformation (minimalist style):
Precautions: Ensure the structural stability of the iron pillar before transformation, and keep the materials level during adhesion to avoid tilting and affecting aesthetics.
