Feeling Tired from Sitting on an Office Chair
Feeling tired after sitting on an office chair for a long time is mainly related to factors such as the impact of prolonged sitting on bodily functions, improper sitting posture, and insufficient chair support. It can be alleviated through regular breaks, adjusting sitting posture, optimizing support, and increasing physical activity.

Prolonged sitting itself can have a negative impact on bodily functions. Maintaining a static sitting posture for an extended period causes muscle atrophy, reduces metabolic rate, impedes blood flow, leads to body oxygen deprivation, and subsequently increases fatigue. At the same time, incorrect sitting postures, such as slouching or leaning forward, keep muscles and joints in a tense state for a long time, preventing them from fully relaxing and also causing fatigue.
Insufficient chair support is also an important reason for fatigue from prolonged sitting. If a so-called 'pseudo-ergonomic chair' is used, its adjustment functions may be impractical and unable to provide adequate support and comfort according to individual body characteristics, resulting in excessive pressure on certain body parts and thus fatigue. A truly ergonomic chair should have practical adjustment functions, continuous lumbar and back support, and sitting posture adaptability, effectively dispersing body pressure and reducing fatigue.
To alleviate fatigue from prolonged sitting, the following measures can be taken. First, take regular breaks by standing up every 45 - 60 minutes of work and moving around for 5 - 10 minutes. Do some simple stretching exercises, such as turning your neck, stretching your arms, and moving your waist, or take a short walk to promote blood circulation and relieve muscle tension. Second, maintain a correct sitting posture by adjusting the height of the chair and desk so that your feet are flat on the ground, your knees and hips are at a 90-degree angle, your back is straight, and your shoulders are relaxed. Avoid slouching or leaning forward. Third, if the chair lacks sufficient support, add a lumbar support or seat cushion to optimize support for the lower back and buttocks and reduce body pressure. Fourth, increase daily physical activity by setting aside 30 minutes each day for aerobic exercises such as running or swimming to enhance physical fitness and improve endurance. Fifth, learn to relax and reduce stress by trying methods such as meditation or yoga to relieve mental pressure and relax the body and mind.
