Tire-Shaped Office Chair

Admin October 10, 2026

Currently, a complete production method for tire-shaped office chairs has not been retrieved, but creative solutions for transforming used tires into seats can be adapted in combination with ergonomic design.

Common Solutions for Transforming Used Tires into Seats

  1. Woven Grid Seat Cushion
    Cut the inner tube of the tire into thin strips and weave them crosswise to form a grid-like seat cushion. This method retains the circular outline of the tire but requires additional structures (such as wooden or metal frames) for support; otherwise, long-term use may lead to sagging due to insufficient elasticity. If used for an office chair, a stiffer base plate (such as multi-layer plywood) should be added beneath the seat cushion, along with an adjustable-height gas spring or metal bracket to meet the needs of prolonged sitting in an office setting.

  2. Double-Tire Combination Structure
    Stack two tires vertically, insert a wooden board in the middle and secure it with nails, and insert wooden strips diagonally as chair legs. This design offers high stability but lacks a backrest and armrests, failing to meet the ergonomic requirements of an office chair. Improvements include adding an adjustable-angle backrest (such as a wooden or plastic board) at the rear, installing foldable armrests on both sides, and optimizing the chair leg structure to accommodate casters or a fixed base.

  3. Storage Design for Children's Seats
    Combine four tires to create a children's seat with shoe storage, which essentially involves cutting and assembling the tires to form a multi-layer structure. This design is more suited to leisure settings. To transform it into an office chair, the storage function should be simplified, with a focus on strengthening the support structure (such as adding a central metal column) and adjusting the seat height to the 45-50 cm range suitable for adult office use.

  4. Semicircular Cutting and Fixing Method
    Cut the tire into a semicircle and fix it with wooden strips to form a stable structure. This method lowers the seat's center of gravity but requires addressing the issue of burr removal from the tire edges (such as sanding or wrapping with leather). If used for an office chair, a detachable backrest module should be added to the semicircular structure, along with more breathable seat cushion materials (such as memory foam or high-density sponge).

Key Ergonomic Adjustments for Office Chair Transformation

Most existing solutions are designed for leisure seats. To adapt them for office settings, the following issues must be addressed:

  • Backrest Support: Add an adjustable-angle backrest that conforms to the lumbar curve to reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting;
  • Armrest Design: Incorporate adjustable-height or rotating armrests to support the naturalไธ‹ๅž‚ of the arms;
  • Height Adjustment: Equip with a gas spring or screw-type lifting mechanism to accommodate different desk heights;
  • Mobility: Install casters at the bottom of the chair legs to enhance flexibility of use.

Currently, publicly available information does not cover the complete production process of tire office chairs. It is recommended to combine the aforementioned transformation solutions with ergonomic principles and conduct experiments to optimize structural stability and comfort.
