The Office Chair Turntable is Broken
The repair of a broken office chair turntable should be carried out according to the specific fault manifestations. Common problems and solutions are as follows:

Problem of Not Turning
If the turntable has difficulty turning due to jamming or insufficient lubrication of the bottom rotating components, cleaning and lubrication should be carried out first. When cleaning, use an old toothbrush or a stiff-bristled brush to clean the dust and debris in the gaps of the turntable and the grooves of the bearings. After wiping off the debris, check for any foreign objects causing blockage. If it still cannot turn after cleaning, add 1-2 drops of lubricating oil to the gaps of the turntable axis and the bearing parts (it is recommended to use sewing machine oil or special mechanical lubricating oil. Edible oil can be used temporarily as a substitute). After adding the oil, manually rotate the base to allow the lubricating oil to evenly penetrate into the interior of the bearing. Let it stand for 2 minutes and then test if the rotation is smooth. This method is suitable for dry jamming caused by long-term lack of maintenance, but excessive oil addition should be avoided to prevent the oil from seeping into other components and causing contamination.
Problem of Wobbling Side to Side
If the turntable wobbles, troubleshooting and repair should be carried out in steps:
- Safety Inspection and Preliminary Observation: Determine whether the source of the wobbling is the upper part (the connection between the seat cushion and the tray) or the lower part (the connection between the tray and the gas lift or the casters). Judge the loose point by manually pressing different parts.
- In-depth Diagnosis of the Cause:
- Loose Mechanical Connections: Tighten all visible connecting screws, especially the fixing bolts between the tray and the gas lift and between the seat cushion and the tray.
- Worn Nylon Slots/Plastic Clips: If the clips are broken or the slots are deformed, replace the corresponding model parts (the turntable structure needs to be disassembled to match the model).
- Aging of Interface Components: Rusting of metal clips or cracking of the inner plastic sleeves will lead to unstable connections, and the worn components need to be replaced.
- Overall Replacement of the Tray: If the metal structure of the tray is severely deformed (such as bending or breaking) or excessively worn (such as the enlargement of the bearing hole), purchase a new tray of the same model or a universal model for overall replacement. When replacing, pay attention to the matching between the tray and the gas lift to avoid wobbling again after installation.
Problem Related to the Gas Lift
If the gas lift of the swivel chair is damaged (such as not being able to rise after being pressed down, oil leakage, or breakage), causing abnormal function of the turntable, the gas lift needs to be replaced by yourself:
- Removing the Old Gas Lift: Turn the swivel chair over steadily and gently tap the edge of the gas lift with a hammer to make it come out of the socket (be careful not to break the plastic parts).
- Installing the New Gas Lift: Align the new gas lift and insert it into the socket, ensuring that the clips or threads are fully engaged. Turn the swivel chair over and test whether the lifting function is normal. When replacing, choose a product that matches the specifications of the original gas lift to avoid damaging the turntable again due to mismatched pressure.
