The Office Chair is a Bit Short
Admin October 14, 2026
If the office chair is a bit short, you can choose the following solutions based on the type of chair:

Adjustable Office Chairs
- Modern Lifting Chairs (Office Chairs/Ergonomic Chairs): Usually adjust the height using a lever (handle) beneath the seat. To raise the chair, leave the seat or lift your body and pull the lever upward; to lower it, sit on the chair and pull the lever downward, then release the handle to secure it. If the chair sinks when you sit on it or the lever doesn't work to raise it, there may be issues with the gas lift (internal gas leakage or damage, requiring a new gas lift), the locking mechanism (check if the locking mechanism at the bottom of the chair is too tight or stuck, and try adjusting it to restore normal function), or loose connections (check all screws and bolts for looseness and tighten them). If you don't want to replace the gas lift temporarily, you can use an emergency fixing method: remove the retaining ring, find a PPR pipe of appropriate height to fit over the gas lift as support, and then reinstall the retaining ring, but the chair will no longer be adjustable in height afterward.
- Gaming Chairs: If the lifting function fails, the repair method is the same as for the above office chairs.
- Electric Office Chairs: Press the electric adjustment button on the side of the seat (usually marked with up and down arrows) to automatically adjust the height; if the button is broken, check the power supply or contact after-sales service for repair.
Non-Adjustable Office Chairs
- Use Specialized Heightening Pads: Purchase rubber or plastic chair leg heightening pads and directly fit or glue them to the bottom of the chair legs. These can stably raise the chair height by 2-5 centimeters and also have the advantages of being slip-resistant and reducing noise.
- DIY Heightening: Use materials at hand, such as cutting appropriate wooden blocks or thick fabric wrappings, and secure them to the chair legs with ropes. This method requires ensuring that the heightening materials are firmly and stably attached to prevent the chair from tipping over.
- Place Cushions or Backrests on the Existing Chair.
- Use a Footrest or Short Stool to Support Your Feet and Improve Your Posture.
- Adjust the Height of Items on the Desk: Such as raising the keyboard or monitor.
- Replace the Chair: If the above methods are ineffective or affect safety, consider replacing it with a new one.
- Contact a Furniture Repair Shop to Retrofit an Adjustment Mechanism (applicable to old fixed-height chairs).
Regardless of the method used, ensure that the adjusted sitting posture meets health standards: your feet can rest flat on the ground, your thighs are parallel to the ground, and your line of sight is at an appropriate angle with the desk or screen.
