The Office Chair Air Column Comes Off Easily
Admin October 08, 2026
The office chair air column comes off easily, usually due to the aging of the gas lift rod or poor sealing, resulting in the leakage of high-pressure nitrogen gas inside or the wear of the oil seal, making it unable to maintain the locking pressure.

Solutions
Check the Status of the Gas Lift Rod
- Observe the Appearance and Sound: Check if the gas lift rod has cracks, deformations, or air leakage sounds (such as a 'hissing' sound), which are typical signs of sealing failure.
- Confirm Connection Stability: Check if the connecting screws between the five-star base, the chair seat chassis, and the gas lift rod are loose. However, note that simple looseness usually does not cause regular descent and needs to be judged in combination with other symptoms.
Contact the Official After-sales Service
- Handling During the Warranty Period: If the chair is within the warranty period, directly contact the brand's customer service, provide proof of purchase (such as an invoice or order record), and apply for free repair or replacement of the gas lift rod.
- Options After the Warranty Period: If the warranty period has expired, you can inquire about the official paid repair service or purchase original accessories (some brands sell gas lift rods separately) to ensure compatibility of the accessories.
Replace the Gas Lift Rod Yourself (with Caution)
- Tool and Accessory Preparation: You need to prepare a hammer (or an adjustable wrench), lubricating oil, and a new gas lift rod of matching specifications. Prioritize products with SGS Level 4 certification, TUV certification, or compliance with the GB/T 2280-2016 standard to avoid safety hazards caused by using inferior accessories.
- Operation Steps:
- Raise the chair to its highest position, place it upside down on a stable surface, and pad it with a soft cloth to protect the chair seat.
- Gently tap the edge of the central sleeve of the five-star base with a hammer to separate the base from the lower end of the gas lift rod (if it is rusted, you can drip lubricating oil to assist).
- After removing the old gas lift rod, install the new one and reassemble the chair, ensuring that all components are tightly connected.
- Safety Tips: It is strictly prohibited to disassemble, drill holes in, or repair a faulty gas lift rod by yourself, as its internal high-pressure state may cause an explosion risk.
Other Troubleshooting Directions
- Check the Adjustment Valve/Locking Mechanism: Confirm whether the adjustment valve or locking mechanism at the bottom of the chair is blocked by foreign objects, preventing it from locking normally.
- Special Inspection for Electric Chairs: If it is an electric lifting chair, check whether the power supply, circuit, and motor are working properly to rule out electrical failures.
Precautions
- Prioritize Operational Safety: If you are unsure how to operate, it is recommended to contact a professional repair person to handle it to avoid safety hazards caused by improper operation.
- Match Accessory Specifications: When replacing the gas lift rod, be sure to ensure that the specifications of the new accessory match the original chair and comply with safety standards to prevent secondary failures caused by incompatibility.
