The Office Chair is Too Hard
Admin October 09, 2026
There are multiple ways to improve the situation where the office chair is too hard, as follows:

I. Use Special Seat Cushions or Backrests
- Air Cushions: These can be adjusted in firmness by manual pressing for inflation and support one-click deflation. With a thickness of 4.5 cm, they can effectively buffer the pressure from hard seat cushions and are suitable for scenarios requiring flexible adjustments.
- Lumbar Support Seat Cushions: Featuring a โCโ-shaped curvature design combined with breathable mesh fabric and anti-slip particles, they can conform to the lumbar curve and disperse pressure on the waist, making them especially suitable for people who sit for long periods.
- Memory Foam/Latex Backrests: Memory foam backrests conform to the body's curves through their slow-rebound properties, relieving fatigue at pressure points; latex backrests excel in elasticity and breathability, providing stable support.
- Down/Fleece Backrests: These are soft and fluffy with strong warmth retention but have relatively weak support. They are suitable for short-term use or as auxiliary support in winter.
II. Address Local Pressure Issues Specifically
- Seat Cushion Edge Pressing on Thighs:
- Adjust your sitting posture so that your back is firmly against the lumbar support, avoiding contact with the hard edge.
- Install a thin cotton pad or mesh pad with a curved front edge to buffer the sharp corners.
- Lower the chair height so that your thighs are naturally flat, reducing pressure.
- When purchasing, prioritize molded foam seat cushions with a waterfall-curved front edge and moderate firmness, or models with adjustable seat depth.
III. Overall Modification and Adjustment
- Install Thickened Chair Covers: One-piece thickened or fleece chair covers can quickly enhance softness, but note the following:
- If the seat has a heating function, an overly thick chair cover will insulate and increase energy consumption.
- For car seats, ensure that the chair cover does not affect the deployment of side airbags.
- Scientifically Adjust Chair Parameters:
- Seat Height: Keep your feet flat on the ground, with the angle between your thighs and calves at about 90 degrees, and leave a fist-sized gap between the back of your knees and the edge of the seat cushion.
- Backrest Angle: Recline at 100-110 degrees to increase the contact area with your back and disperse pressure.
- Lumbar Support Adjustment: Adjust the lumbar support up and down and forward and backward so that it precisely supports the physiological lordosis of the lumbar spine.
IV. DIY Soft Pack Modification For non-adjustable hard chairs (such as wooden chairs), you can modify them yourself:
- Prepare high-density foam (3-5 cm thick), wear-resistant fabric, and fixing tools (such as a staple gun and elastic bands).
- Measure the dimensions of the seat and backrest, cut the foam, and chamfer the edges.
- Wrap the foam with the fabric and fix it to the chair frame. The cost is usually controlled within 100 yuan.
By using the above methods, you can effectively relieve the discomfort caused by an overly hard office chair and improve comfort during long periods of sitting.
