The Office Chair is Too Dirty

Admin October 14, 2026

When the office chair is too dirty, choose cleaning methods based on the material, as follows:

Fabric Office Chairs

  • Ordinary Stains: Gently wipe with a soft cloth dipped in a cleaning solution made of neutral soap and warm water, avoiding excessive soaking of the filling.
  • Stubborn Stains: Sprinkle baking soda and let it sit for 15 minutes, then clean with a vacuum cleaner to remove odors and stains. Removable fabric covers can be machine-washed according to the label instructions, while fixed fabric covers should be manually wiped locally.
  • Deep Cleaning: First, dust off with a duster, then thoroughly clean with a vacuum cleaner (including crevices and wheels), using fabric attachments or compressed air to remove stubborn debris. Choose a cleaning agent based on the care label: warm water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid is sufficient; if the label indicates โ€œS,โ€ use a dry-cleaning solvent; โ€œWโ€ requires a water-based solvent; โ€œSW/S/Wโ€ allows for either; โ€œXโ€ requires professional cleaning; and โ€œCโ€ requires an enzyme detergent. Test in an inconspicuous area before cleaning, gently pat (do not rub) the stained area, and avoid completely soaking the material.

Leather Office Chairs

  • Daily Cleaning: Remove dust with a soft cloth or vacuum cleaner, then gently wipe with a dedicated cleaner or a 1:1 diluted white vinegar solution (test in a hidden area first). For oil stains or pen marks, quickly wipe with a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of alcohol, avoiding prolonged contact with the leather. After wiping, apply a conditioner. Do not expose to direct sunlight or use harsh cleaning agents (such as turpentine or gasoline).
  • Deep Cleaning: After dusting with a duster, gently clean with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a furniture cushion attachment brush, avoiding excessive suction that could damage the leather. Choose a cleaning agent based on the care label and follow the same steps as daily cleaning.

Mesh Office Chairs

  • Dust Removal: Clean dust from the mesh with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a brush attachment, or vacuum first and then roughly absorb particles.
  • Stain Treatment: Gently brush stains with a soft brush dipped in soapy water, wipe with a damp cloth, and then dry with a dry cloth. Check for rust on the frame and avoid direct sunlight. For deep cleaning, dilute the cleaner, spray it, and let it sit for a moment. Alternate between using a steam cleaner and a high-temperature washing machine to extract at least twice, while using a water extractor to dry the water and speed up the drying process.

Suede Office Chairs

  • Dust Removal: Clean dust from crevices with a vacuum cleaner, a small brush, or a soft-bristled brush to prevent accumulation.
  • Local Stains: Mix warm water with a small amount of neutral cleaner, dip a soft cloth in it, wring it out, and gently press and wipe the stains (do not rub vigorously). Treat in small amounts multiple times and ventilate promptly after cleaning.
  • Restoring Texture: After drying, brush the suede in the direction of the nap with a soft-bristled brush to restore its fluffiness.

General Precautions

  • After cleaning, place the chair in a well-ventilated area to air dry naturally. Do not expose to direct sunlight (which may cause fading or cracking).
  • Avoid scrubbing the surface vigorously. Do not wipe wooden or iron legs directly with a damp cloth (to prevent corrosion or rust).
  • Regularly pat the areas where you sit for long periods to reduce sagging, and check if screws and springs are loose and tighten them promptly.
