Office Chair Is Not Sturdy

Admin October 17, 2026

The issue of an office chair not being sturdy can be resolved through methods such as structural reinforcement, auxiliary support, environmental adaptation, backrest treatment, and the use of reinforcement kits. Regular maintenance is also necessary.

Structural Reinforcement

Check and tighten all screws/bolts, especially at the connection points between the chair legs and the seat surface. An electric screwdriver can improve efficiency. Install triangular metal corner braces (available at hardware stores) between the chair legs to enhance stability by distributing the load. For wooden chairs, inject wood glue into the joints before tightening the screws. For old-style rattan chairs, wrap the frame with nylon rope to strengthen the structure.

Auxiliary Support

For loose joints, insert bamboo toothpicks or cut pieces of cardboard to fill the gaps before tightening the screws (suitable for temporary emergency fixes). For steel-tube chairs, fit thickened silicone anti-slip sleeves on the legs to absorb shock and fill gaps. For rotating office chairs, check the connection between the gas lift and the base, and gently tap the components back into place with a rubber mallet to prevent wobbling caused by misalignment.

Environmental Adaptation

Stick felt pads or rubber bases under the chair legs to protect the floor and increase friction. For uneven chair legs, sand the bottoms or stick multiple layers of hard cardboard to adjust the height difference. If the floor is significantly tilted, use adjustable furniture feet pads (360ยฐ rotating adjustable type) to balance the support.

Backrest Loosening Treatment

Check the metal or plastic components connecting the backrest to the base, and tighten all visible screws. If the screw holes are stripped, fill them with softwood shavings or wrap them with PTFE tape to increase friction before tightening. Adjust the height of the gas lift (if there is a knob) or replace it with a new one of the matching model. Lock the backrest adjustment mechanism. If the fixing clip is loose, find the adjustment handle or toggle under the chair back and repeatedly flip it to reset. If the internal spring of the mechanism is broken, the outer casing needs to be opened to replace the parts (it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional repair shop).

Using Reinforcement Kits

Use high-strength metal chair reinforcement kits to enhance stability by fixing the chair legs and the chair body. Installation is simple and does not affect the original appearance and function, and it can also extend the service life.

Daily Maintenance Recommendations

Check the tightness of the screws on metal chairs every quarter. For wooden chairs, pay attention to changes in environmental humidity (wood expansion and contraction can cause structural looseness). For high-value furniture, use structural adhesive containing epoxy resin for permanent reinforcement. Carbon fiber cloth reinforcement technology can increase the load-bearing capacity by 300%, but it requires professional operation.
