The Office Chair Foot is Broken

Admin October 12, 2026

If the foot of an office chair is broken, you can take measures such as self-repair, contacting the manufacturer's after-sales service, finding professional repair personnel, or disposing of it, depending on the extent of the damage.

Self-repair

  • Replacing a damaged caster wheel: If only one caster wheel is not rotating, damaged, or has fallen off, this is a relatively simple repair situation. First, identify the type of wheel, which is divided into threaded and plug-in types. For threaded wheels, use your hands or with the help of pliers or a screwdriver to rotate it counterclockwise and unscrew the damaged wheel. For plug-in wheels, use both hands to firmly grip the wheel, press it downwards, and rotate it left and right to pull it out. When installing a new wheel, ensure that the model, size, and load-bearing capacity match. For threaded wheels, rotate it clockwise and tighten it. For plug-in wheels, forcefully insert it vertically until you hear a 'click' sound.
  • Replacing the entire five-star chair base: When the five-star base itself is broken, severely deformed, or detached from the central column, a complete replacement is a reliable solution. Place the chair on its side or gently invert it onto a soft pad and observe the connection method between the center of the five-star base and the bottom of the gas lift (central column). If it is fixed with a flat washer and snap ring, locate and remove the snap ring to extract the five-star base. If it is a conical press fit, use a rubber mallet to gently tap the connection to loosen it and then remove it. Purchase a matching new five-star base for installation.
  • Repairing the footrest: If the footrest is damaged, first observe the extent of the damage. If the screws are loose, use a screwdriver to tighten them. If a component is broken, find a replacement material of the same specification and fix it with glue or tools. For example, the footrest of the Sihoo C series C300/C500 is fixed with three screws. Simply remove these three screws to replace it.

Contacting the manufacturer's after-sales service

Check the warranty information of the chair. If it is still within the warranty period, you can contact the manufacturer's after-sales service. The manufacturer will arrange for professional personnel to repair or replace the relevant components. This method ensures the quality of the repair and may not require you to bear the cost.

Finding professional repair personnel

If you are unable to handle the damage to the office chair foot by yourself, you can find professional furniture repair personnel nearby. They have professional knowledge and skills and can quickly and accurately repair the chair, but you may need to pay a certain repair fee.

Disposal

If the damage to the office chair foot is severe and cannot be repaired, and the value of the chair is not high, you can consider disposing of it and purchasing a new chair.
