Office Chair Foot Cracked
Admin October 16, 2026
If the foot of an office chair is cracked, targeted repair measures can be taken according to the damaged part:

For the footrest part:
- Check the fastening: First, examine the connection between the footrest and the chair, such as whether the screws are loose. If they are loose, use a screwdriver of the corresponding model to tighten them. If the screws are lost, you need to go to a hardware store to buy screws of the same specification for installation.
- Repair the broken part: Choose a repair method according to the material. If it is a wooden footrest and partially cracked, you can use wood glue to bond the broken part and then fix it with clamps until the glue dries. If it is a plastic footrest that is cracked, you need to use plastic-specific glue to paste it, ensuring that the bonding surface is flat.
- Replace parts: If the footrest is severely damaged and cannot be repaired, you can contact the chair manufacturer to buy a suitable footrest for replacement, or search for the same model of parts online and install them yourself. If you cannot buy suitable parts, you can find a professional furniture customization store to customize a footrest according to the size and style of the chair. If the chair has been used for a long time and other parts are also damaged, and the repair cost is high, you can consider replacing it with a new chair.
For the wheel-foot part:
- Check the wheels: Place the chair upright and confirm that each wheel-foot makes even contact with the ground. Then, turn the chair upside down and check whether the wheel-feet are bent, cracked, or worn. Wheel damage may be caused by uneven weight distribution, manufacturing defects, or long-term use.
- Replace the wheels: If damaged wheels are found, you need to buy matching new wheels. You can contact the chair manufacturer to provide the model for ordering, or remove an old wheel and take it to an office supplies store to match a replacement set. Note that the shape and size of the wheel axles should be consistent.
- Remove the old wheels: Pull out the wheel-feet directly by hand. If they are stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel-foot and the chair, and slowly operate it back and forth as a lever. When the wheel-foot rod is pulled out by about 1 centimeter, pull it again. If the wheel-feet are fixed with screws, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and then remove them.
- Install the new wheels: Apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD-40) on the socket of the chair base, or apply Vaseline on the wheel axles. Use a rubber mallet to knock the casters into the sockets, ensuring that the rods are fully inserted into the base. Avoid hitting the bottom of the wheels to prevent deformation.
- Test the new wheels: Turn the chair upside down and sit on it. If it rolls smoothly and does not tilt, the repair is complete. If it still tilts, you need to check whether the seat plate is damaged.
For the five-star foot part: If the five-star foot (the main body of the chair foot) is cracked, it is recommended to directly replace it with a steel or aluminum alloy chair foot, which has better load-bearing capacity than nylon and can improve the stability and service life of the chair.
