Office Chair Cannot Be Twisted

Admin October 16, 2026

The issue of an office chair being unable to be twisted should be addressed based on the specific type of fault. Here are some common situations and their solutions:

1. Stuck Casters/Wheels
If the chair cannot move, it is usually due to hair, yarn, or dust wrapped around the wheel axles on the floor. Steps for handling:

  • Turn the chair over, use a screwdriver to remove the casters, and clean any foreign objects (such as hair and debris) from the wheel axles and the surfaces of the wheels;
  • If the rubber part of the wheels is cracked or severely worn, replace them with new wheels (it is recommended to choose a model that matches the size of the original wheels);
  • After reinstalling the casters, test whether the chair moves smoothly to avoid secondary blockages caused by residual foreign objects.

2. Malfunctioning Swivel Function
If the chair cannot rotate, it is often due to a lack of lubrication in the turntable track of the base or dry friction between metal parts. Steps for handling:

  • Apply silicone grease or white lithium grease to the turntable track and contact surfaces, and repeatedly rotate the seat to evenly distribute the lubricant;
  • If the axle is short of oil, use a syringe to inject a small amount of sewing machine oil or special lubricating oil into the axle, and rotate and test until the rotation is flexible;
  • Avoid using viscous lubricants such as engine oil to prevent the adsorption of dust and accelerated wear.

3. Stuck Height Adjustment Function
If a pneumatic height-adjustable chair cannot adjust its height, it needs to be handled on a case-by-case basis:

  • Locked adjustment handle: Check whether the bottom handle is in the locked position, unlock it, and then try to adjust;
  • Faulty pneumatic rod: If the sealing ring is worn or nitrogen leaks, replace the pneumatic rod (it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician);
  • Oil cylinder air leakage: Drip a small amount of engine oil around the air release button to enhance the sealing performance. If it is ineffective, replace the oil cylinder.

4. Blocked Structural Components
If a folding chair or an adjustable structure is stuck, it needs to be handled according to the specific part:

  • Misaligned buckles: Gently straighten the position of the buckles and repeatedly try to open and close them until they move smoothly again;
  • Dust accumulation on the rotating shaft/lock: Use a dry brush to clean the dust from the gaps and drip a small amount of lubricating oil before moving the parts;
  • Deformed chair legs: If there are cracks or deformations at the connections, replace the repair parts (avoid forcing use to prevent the risk of breakage).

Operation Tips: Before handling, be sure to turn the chair over to locate the problematic part and avoid using brute force to damage the components. During daily use, regularly clean debris from the gaps and operate with gentle opening and closing actions to effectively reduce the occurrence of blockages. If the fault is complex or involves dangerous parts such as pneumatic rods, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for handling.
