Parts Under the Office Chair Fall Off

Admin October 19, 2026

When parts under the office chair fall off or malfunction, targeted solutions should be implemented based on the specific causes. The following are common situations and their solutions:

I. Gas Spring Failure Leading to Sinking During Height Adjustment

  1. Fault Diagnosis
    • Check for traces of black hydraulic oil leakage at the connection between the gas spring and the five-star base. If present, it indicates that the oil seal has failed, and the gas spring needs to be replaced.
    • Observe whether the small steel ball rebound button on the outside of the five-star base is loose. If the button cannot rebound normally, it may be due to fatigue fracture of the brass return spring.
  2. Temporary Repair
    • If there is slight air leakage due to oil seal failure, cut a 0.5mm graphite lubricating sheet into a 10ร—30mm strip and wind it around the threaded base of the gas spring twice to form a physical seal, which can provide a buffer period of about 40 days.
  3. Gas Spring Replacement
    • Measure the outer diameter of the gas spring to an accuracy of 0.1mm and select the appropriate parameters according to body weight: ฮฆ28mm is suitable for body weights within 70kg, and ฮฆ35mm has a rated ultimate load of 200kg.
    • Identify the SAE304 certification number on the laser-marked part of the tube to avoid using inferior 204 series gas springs that are prone to explosion.
  4. Preventive Measures
    • Rotate the height adjustment mechanism three full cycles every week to keep the O-shaped silicone ring actively sliding.
    • Apply organic silicon protective grease to the exposed part of the aluminum alloy piston rod every quarter to isolate moisture.

II. Detachment of the Seat Bottom (such as the base, knobs, etc.)

  1. Repair Methods
    • Glue Fixing: After cleaning the detached part, apply special glue for bonding, which is suitable for small-area detachment.
    • Screw Fixing: Align the detached part with the bottom of the seat and tighten the screws with a screwdriver, which is suitable for large-area detachment.
  2. Installing Cylindrical Knobs
    • Confirm whether the knob is a base fixing part, insert it into the base hole, and rotate it counterclockwise to the correct position.
    • Tighten the edge screws with a screwdriver to ensure that the knob can adjust the height smoothly.
  3. Preventive Measures
    • Regularly check whether the seat structure and connections are firm.
    • Avoid violent shaking or excessive force to reduce the pressure on the bottom.

III. Other Precautions

  • If there is continuous sinking of more than 4cm, stop using it immediately to prevent the risk of cylinder explosion.
  • When performing maintenance, use a torque-limiting wrench to loosen the bolts. Do not use an impact electric wrench to avoid damaging the threaded joints.
  • If you are unable to repair it yourself, it is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel or the manufacturer.
