Telescopic Spring Office Chair

Admin October 13, 2026

The telescopic function of telescopic spring office chairs is usually achieved through a gas spring rather than a traditional spring. The following provides an explanation from three aspects: working principle, quality requirements, and purchasing advice.

The working principle of the gas spring is based on high-pressure nitrogen gas drive. It is filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas internally, and the connection and isolation between two gas chambers are regulated by a control valve. When the valve is opened, the high-pressure gas chamber connects with the low-pressure gas chamber, and the pressure difference drives the piston rod to extend or retract, thus enabling the lifting and lowering function of the office chair. This process does not require a power supply and can be completed solely relying on the change in gas pressure, featuring rapid response and convenient operation. Unlike traditional springs that achieve telescoping through elastic deformation, the pressure-difference drive mechanism of the gas spring makes its lifting and lowering more stable and allows it to bear greater weights, accommodating the needs of users with different body types.

The quality of the gas spring directly affects the stability and safety of the office chair. High-quality gas springs need to meet two core requirements: First, the purity of nitrogen gas. If other gases (such as oxygen) are mixed in, abnormal gas pressure may occur due to high temperatures or frequent use, causing the chair to suddenly sink or bounce. Second, passing international safety certifications, such as the strength grade tests conducted by third-party institutions like SGS and TรœV according to the EN16955 standard. This certification covers indicators such as the pressure resistance and fatigue life of the gas spring. Products that have not passed the certification may pose an explosion risk, seriously threatening user safety. For example, a low-quality gas spring may have its outer shell rupture due to gas expansion in a high-temperature environment, resulting in personal injury.

When purchasing an office chair with a telescopic function, it is necessary to first confirm the specifications and testing information of the gas spring. Specifically, check whether the product manual clearly indicates the brand, model, and certification mark (such as the EN16955 certification number) of the gas spring, and avoid choosing products that do not provide testing reports or have unclear certification information. In addition, observe the appearance of the gas spring: The outer shell of high-quality products is usually made of thickened steel, with a smooth and flawless surface, and is equipped with an explosion-proof chassis; while low-quality products may use thin-walled metal or plastic outer shells, posing safety hazards. If possible, ask the merchant to provide a pressure resistance test video or a third-party testing report of the gas spring to further verify its safety.
