Dangers of Telescopic Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

Telescopic office chairs (adjustable chairs) do pose certain risks, but these dangers primarily stem from quality defects or improper use rather than inherent technical flaws in the product itself. Correct selection and usage can significantly reduce these risks.

Sources of Danger

  1. Structural and Material Issues
Poor-quality products may use non-durable or flammable materials. If high-pressure air is used instead of nitrogen in the pneumatic rod, it may explode due to friction or accumulated pressure. For example, in 2015, a lifting chair exploded in Xiamen, injuring Ms. Liu with the pneumatic rod penetrating her body by over 20 centimeters; the chair involved was a product without any brand or manufacturer information. In 2010, a woman in Fujian suffered severe injuries from an exploding pneumatic lifting chair, which also lacked any factory name or address information.

  2. Improper Use or Environmental Factors
Excessive stretching, frequently sitting on the edge, prolonged exposure to high temperatures or humid environments can accelerate damage to the internal structure. For instance, in 2009, a 14-year-old boy in Shandong died after a pneumatic chair exploded while he was adjusting it, injuring multiple blood vessels; such cases are often related to incorrect operation or environmental influences.

  3. Product Quality Inspection and Maintenance Issues
Lax quality control during production or lack of maintenance during use (such as not replacing a pneumatic rod that leaks oil or makes squeaking noises in a timely manner) can lead to safety hazards. For example, oil leakage from the pneumatic rod may indicate internal seal failure, while unusual noises may suggest component wear, both of which require immediate attention.

Safety Recommendations

  1. Choose Genuine Products
Check for the steel stamp on the pneumatic rod (which should include the manufacturer's code and S09001 certification), opt for well-known brands (such as Yoasion, Sihoo), and request inspection reports. Genuine brand lifting chairs undergo 120,000 lift tests and are equipped with a 3mm explosion-proof steel plate at the bottom, ensuring safety.

  2. Daily Usage Precautions
Avoid frequent lifting and lowering (no more than 10 times a day), stay away from high-temperature sources like radiators, and replace the chair immediately if oil leakage or unusual noises are detected. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause the gas inside the pneumatic rod to expand, increasing the risk of explosion.

  3. Maintenance and Inspection
Regularly inspect components such as the pneumatic rod and chassis, and avoid incorrect disassembly or overloading (such as using the chair as a ladder or shaking it violently). Incorrect disassembly can damage the internal sealing structure, while overloading can accelerate component wear.
