Swivel Office Chair

Admin October 10, 2026

There are indeed types of office chairs that can rotate, commonly known as swivel chairs, which fall under the common categories of office chairs or computer chairs, with the English name being swivel chair.

The core function of a swivel office chair is 360-degree free rotation, achieved through a rotating mechanism (such as bearings or a turntable) installed at the bottom, enabling relative rotation between the seat and the chair legs. This design allows the chair to rotate smoothly without jamming, enabling users to easily adjust their direction without getting up, such as quickly turning to retrieve documents from a filing cabinet, communicating with colleagues seated nearby, or reaching different areas of the desk by rotating, significantly enhancing office efficiency.

Based on differences in rotation angles, swivel chairs can be divided into two categories:

  1. Semi-swivel chairs: Their rotation range is limited to 90 degrees to the left and right, suitable for scenarios with limited space or where only minor directional adjustments are needed, such as fixed seats around a conference table.
  2. Full-swivel chairs: Supporting 360-degree unrestricted rotation, they are the preferred choice for open office areas or positions requiring frequent interaction, as their flexibility minimizes body movement and reduces fatigue from prolonged sitting.

The advantages of swivel design are not only functional but also closely related to ergonomics. By rotating instead of walking, users can maintain a seated position to complete multiple tasks, reducing attention distraction caused by frequent getting up; at the same time, the rotating mechanism is often combined with a pneumatic height adjustment lever, allowing users to adjust the seat according to the desk height, further optimizing seating comfort. Additionally, modern swivel chairs often feature silent wheels, producing almost no noise during rotation to avoid disturbing others.

It should be noted that the rotation performance of swivel chairs is significantly affected by materials and craftsmanship. High-quality swivel chairs use high-precision bearings or wear-resistant turntables, maintaining smooth rotation even after long-term use; while low-end products may experience jamming or abnormal noises due to component wear. Therefore, when purchasing, attention should be paid to the durability test data of the rotating mechanism, and screws should be regularly checked for tightness to ensure safety during use.
