Swing Office Chair

Admin October 08, 2026

The wobbling of office chairs is usually caused by mechanical fatigue and can be resolved through troubleshooting and repair. Some designs also utilize the characteristic of 'wobbling'.

Common Causes of Wobbling

  • Loose Mechanical Connections: After prolonged use, the screws connecting the seat cushion to the tray and the tray to the five-star base may become loosened, causing the chair to wobble.
  • Worn Nylon Sliders/Plastic Clips: The nylon sliders controlling the tilt angle or the plastic clips used for fixation inside the tray may become white, brittle, or worn due to long-term friction, leading to increased gaps and wobbling.
  • Aging Interface Components: The metal clips or inner plastic sleeves at the interface between the gas lift and the tray may become worn or loose, making the connection unstable.
  • Distinguishing from Gas Lift Issues: If the height adjustment functions normally and the wobbling is limited to the connection area, the problem is likely with the above-mentioned interface components. If the wobbling is accompanied by height adjustment failure or slow sinking, it may be due to gas leakage inside the gas lift.

Troubleshooting and Repair Steps

  • Safety Inspection and Initial Observation: Ensure the chair is unloaded and placed flat. Visually inspect key areas of the tray, such as the connection between the five-star base and the casters, the central turntable, and the gas lift interface, for any cracks, deformations, or detached components. Shake the seat by hand to determine the source of the wobbling.
  • In-Depth Cause Diagnosis: Make judgments based on the above common causes.
  • Targeted Repair Operations:
    • Screw Tightening: Use an appropriate screwdriver or wrench to tighten all visible connecting screws one by one.
    • Replacement of Worn Parts: If the nylon sliders, plastic clips, or interface plastic sleeves are confirmed to be worn, purchase corresponding replacement parts online or contact the manufacturer.
    • Overall Tray Replacement: If the metal structure of the tray is severely deformed or the wear is too severe to be resolved by replacing small parts, purchase a new tray of the same model or a universal model for overall replacement.
  • Special Case Handling:
    • Stripped Screw Treatment: If the screw hole is stripped and cannot be tightened, try wrapping Teflon tape around the screw threads before screwing them in to increase friction. If this is ineffective, consider using a larger screw or a thread repair tool.
    • Screw Model Identification: Common screw specifications for office chairs are metric M6 (6mm in diameter) with lengths ranging from 20 to 30mm. The most accurate method is to disassemble the old screw and measure the outer diameter of the threads with a caliper, or take the old part to a hardware store for comparison and purchase.
